Cruise down the scenic Douro River on an all LGBT charter taking in some of the most interesting historical, cultural and beautiful places in both Spain and Portugal. Start in Madrid and continue cruising down the river, through the valleys, taking in the idyllic country landscapes and little towns and villages before reaching Porto. This is a great gay group trip for anyone who loves being on the water and exploring.

Day 1 - Madrid, Spain

Today you'll arrive in Madrid in Spain. You'll be met at the airport by tour representatives who will help with your luggage and transfer you to the starting hotel in the heart of the city. Once you've settled into your room you can use the rest of your day as you wish; relax after a long flight or head out and explore the city. Madrid PRide festivities have started already so you could go and check out what's on and join in.

Day 2 - Madrid, Spain

You will start your trip with a tour of the city of Madrid, taking in all of the most famous sights. Included in the tour is a visit to the humongous Prado Museum which houses some of the finest collections of European art in the world with almost 7,600 paintings alone.

Day 3 - Salamanca / Barca d'Alva

Today you'll travel from Madrid over to Salamanca. The city of Salamanca is a UNESCO World Heritage city and is famous for its stunning architecture which has endured centuries. The distinctive sandstone buildings give the nickname 'The Golden City' to Salamanca for their alluring golden hues. Explore the university with its old arches and ornately decorated masonry walls before heading on to visit both the New and Old Cathedrals. From here you'll travel to Barca d'Alva, located on the Spanish/Portuguese border, which is where you'll board your cruise ship - the 'Miguel Torga'. 

Day 4 - Barca d'Alva

Today you'll be able to explore the 12th-century walled village of Castelo Rodrigo which is considered one of the most historic villages in all of Portugal amongst eleven others. The streets here are distinctly medieval in feel and the stone-walled houses only add to the historic atmosphere. The village is also home to a statue of Christ, set upon a hill overlooking the village, slightly resembling the famous Christ The Redeemer in Rio De Janeiro.

Day 5 - Pinahao

Today you'll visit the beautiful town of Lamego which is home to one of the most important and visited pilgrimage sites in all of Portugal. The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies is found high up on a hill overlooking the town down below and is reached by its grand flight of stairs totalling 686 steps. The striking appearance of this sanctuary comes from the artistic blue and white tiled friezes that climb out of an impeccably manicured garden. After here you'll enjoy a wine tasting session, testing the finest tipple from the Douro valley wine region. In the evening enjoy a fabulous Gala Dinner on board your ship.

Day 6 - Regua

You'll start your day with a vitis to the Douro Museum where you'll learn all about the Douro River which stretches almost 900kmfrom Spain to Portugal, winding through granite mountains. You'll also visit the 18-century Mateus Palace which has one of the most beautiful landscaped gardens in Portugal. The evening will consist of a tour of the Quinta da Avessada winery - a family owned business that produced premium Moscatel. Here you'll enjoy a rustic dinner with wines that have been produced locally along with traditional musical entertainment.

Day 7 - Regua / Porto Antigo

Today you'll visit the picturesque town of Amarante which lies on the River Tâmega. This old-world town features a beautiful bridge that crosses the river and quaint, historic buildings. You'll enjoy a walking tour of the town, learning all about its history in agriculture, religion and art.

Day 8 - Porto

Today you'll arrive in Porto, with it's charismatic, medieval centre full of old-style architecture and hilly backstreets. You'll enjoy a tour of the famous hub of the Port trade, exploring the 19th-century Palácio da Bolsa, cathedral, and main shopping district of Santa Catarina. Once you have explored the city you will be taken to visit one of the most famous Port cellars in the city to try some of their most famous exports.

Day 9 - Departure

Today you will disembark from the boat and will be transferred to Porto airport ready for your departing flight home.
