Malta made history in 2016 by becoming the first European country to criminalize the harmful practice often dubbed ‘conversion therapy’. In this major step, Malta’s government reinforced its commitment to protecting the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Same-sex couples can marry in Malta, and the country is currently ranked number one in the ILGA-Europe ranking.
Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz
A must-visit destination on any trip to Malta is the island of Gozo. Malta’s sister island is not only home to several picturesque towns offering a glimpse into the country’s past, but also a collection of megalithic temples that are some of the world’s oldest surviving free-standing structures. San Lawrenz is one of the most historied towns on Gozo and just a stone’s throw from Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary – a stunning basilica that is considered to be one of the country’s most important religious sites.
Situated on the outskirts of a traditional village near a gorgeous stretch of Gozitan coastline, the Kempinski Hotel is the ideal place from which to explore San Lawrenz and the surrounding region. The low-rise hotel has extensive gardens to explore as well as a stunning outdoor pool and spa, allowing you to seamlessly combine secluded relaxation with rich cultural discovery.
Cugo Gran Macina
The fortified city of Senglea is located on the opposite side of the Grand Harbor from Valletta and should be visited on any trip to Malta. This walled enclave is a history lovers’ haven, known for its narrow streets and colorfully ornate balconies. Senglea is home to several landmarks that offer an insight into the country’s past, including the Gardjola Gardens and the Gardjola Tower.
Malta’s premier luxury hotel, Cugo Gran Macina Malta offers harbourside accommodation with unrivaled views across the bay. The rooms and suites on offer at the hotel really are next level and have been elegantly designed with a focus on fusing timeless period features with a decidedly contemporary collection of global influences. Guests staying at the hotel will be able to enjoy a full range of amenities including a rooftop pool and restaurant by world-class chef Chris Hammett.
The Rosselli Hotel
Malta’s capital city of Valletta dates back to the 16th century, and this UNESCO World Heritage site is littered with countless fascinating historical landmarks and inspiring cultural relics. Among the city’s ancient treasures is St. John’s Co-Catherdral – a gorgeous Baroque church housing the only signed Carravagio painting in existence. You’ll be arriving in Valletta in time for both the EuroPride Concert and Pride March – the culminating events of 10 days of LGBTQ+ festivities in Valletta.
Tucked away in a quiet stone townhouse in the heart of the city’s historic quarter, The Rosselli Hotel is one of Valletta’s most exclusive luxury properties and a consistently popular choice for discerning travelers visiting Malta. Just a five-minute walk from St John’s Co-Cathedral, the hotel is close to many of Valletta’s most iconic landmarks and its central location makes it the perfect choice for maximizing a EuroPride Valletta 2023 experience.
