LGBT Group Trip: Panama Canal River Cruise

From
8 days£
Group Trip

We’ll be sailing in style on board the Royal Clipper, the largest and only five-masted, full-rigged sailing ship. There’s so much to explore on board. You can look for the secret hideaways and hidden balconies. If you’re feeling daring you could even climb the mast (with a harness). The interior spaces of the ship are very chic. There’s a three-deck atrium, a three-level dining room and excellent on board dining options.

The cruise begins in Panama City. The Panama Canal is considered to be the 8th wonder of the world and an ingenious feat engineering. You’ll sail up the coast from the Atlantic to the Pacific – both oceans are connected (via the Caribbean) by the Panama Canal itself. You can join your fellow passengers on board and learn about the surroundings with a canal historian. We’ll sail to Colombia and then onto Aruba. This is a very stylish way to discover some of the highlights of Latin America.

Group Trip Breakdown

Panama City

Day 1: Balboa

The Port of Balboa in Panama City marks the Pacific terminus of Panama Canal. You’ll see yachts from all over the world and many American colonial-style buildings.

Panama City

Day 2: Panama Canal Transit

Our gay Panama cruising adventure begins. The Panama Canal is one of the greatest engineering feats of the last century. It’s a glorious sight to behold and it joins the Caribbean and the Pacific in the most direct way possible.

San Blas

Day 3: San Blas Archipelago, Panama

We’ll sail past the San Blas Islands. These islands along Panama’s coast are home to the Kuna people. Here you’ll see some of the bluest waters and softest sands in the world. Sailing down the dramatic Kuna Yala coast is quite an experience. The stunning coral atolls are cared for by an independent people with a rich cultural heritage.

Day 4: At Sea

It’s a sailing day. This is an ideal opportunity to enjoy life on board The Royal Clipper. Read a book on the deck, unwind in the spa, get a pump on at the gym or just do nothing and watch the world go by.

Cartagena Colombia

Day 5: Cartagena, Colombia

One two cha cha cha – we are in Colombia! Cartagena is a UNESCO World Heritage site on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. It’s full of charm and character. You’ll see Spanish colonial buildings dating back to the early 1600s. Some of Cartagena’s highlights include Fort Ferdinand and Barajas Fortresses.

Santa Marta

Day 6: Santa Marta, Colombia

Santa Marta is the oldest city in Colombia. It’s surrounded by beautiful beaches and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains. There are ancient ruins nestled in the mountains, including the Lost City (Ciudad Perdida). It’s quite a trek to get there, though! While in town you could visit the Museo del Oro, and see some of the golden riches that drew the conquistadors to the Americas with such fateful consequences.

Day 7: At Sea

Enjoy another day at leisure at sea. You can relax on a sun lounger by the pools on the top deck. If you’re feeling adventurous you could even climb the rigging! You can also enjoy a more peaceful day exploring the interior areas of the ship and unwinding in one of the lounges with a drink.

Man relaxing in hammock in Aruba

Day 8: Oranjestad, Aruba

Our gay Panama cruise draws to a close in Oranjestad, Aruba, just 15 miles from the coast of Venezuela. Aruba is a Dutch outpost and it’s now a hugely popular tourist attraction. After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your return flight. Naturally, you can extend your trip and explore Aruba!
