Group Trip Breakdown
Day 1: Lisbon
Our tour begins in Lisbon’s most charming district, Alfama. Initially a Roman settlement, this area has a long history. It’s Jewish and Moorish influences are also clear in its architecture.
In the evening we’ll have a welcome dinner and watch a live Fado performance.
Day 2: Blue Coast
Today we’ll head to Costa Azul, the Blue Coast. We’ll discover the Portuguese tradition of painting azulejos (square tiles) at a local tile factory.
We’ll then explore the José Maria Fonseca winery and taste the famous Moscatel. After lunch in the coastal town of Sesimbra and then we’ll take a Zodiac along the Arrabida coast. Keep an eye peeled for dolphins.
Day 3: Santiago de Cacem
After breakfast we’ll cycle along the Natural Park of Arrábida and then take a ferry to Troia Peninsula, a national park.
We’ll ride along the Alentejo province passing antiquated farms and stopping off at tiny rural coffee shops.
Santiago do Cacém, a 13th-century town built by the Knights Templar will be our base for the night. We’ll be staying in a manor house, dear.
Day 4: Following Sir Francis Drake
Today we’ll ride along the Roman ruins in Mirobriga, Vila Nova de Milfontes and Vila Nova, a town where Hannibal and the Carthaginians once rested during a storm.
Day 5: Vila Nova de Milfontes
Today we’ll be cycling along the fields and in the afternoon you’re free to explore the town.
Day 6: Moor Riding
Today we’ll head to Zumbujeira do Mar and cycle on across the Rio Seixe – we’ll see many Moorish fortifications along the way. In the evening we’ll wine and dine at our guesthouse in the country.
Day 7: Algarve Coast
Today we’ll be sailing along the Algarve coast. We’ll stop at the charming and funky town of Lagos where we’ll be dining in the premier restaurant in the area.
