Text Welcome to Chiang Mai
The former seat of the Lanna kingdom is a blissfully calm and laid-back place to relax and recharge your batteries. Participate in a vast array of activities, or just stroll around the backstreets, and discover a city that is still firmly Thai in its atmosphere and attitude.
A sprawling, modern city has grown up around ancient Chiang Mai (เชียงใหม่), ringed by a tangle of superhighways. Despite this, the historic center of Chiang Mai still feels overwhelmingly residential, more like a sleepy country town than a bustling capital. If you drive in a straight line in any direction, you'll soon find yourself in the lush green countryside and pristine rainforests dotted with churning waterfalls, serene wát and peaceful country villages – as well as a host of markets and elephant sanctuaries.

Text Discover Chiang Mai
With the best restaurant and cafe scene in the country, excellent nightlife, a strong Buddhist presence and enough activities to fill a calendar year, there is definitely no shortage of things to do in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
It really is the cultural capital in the country, and no doubt you’ll fall in love with it! I've collated a bunch of ideas for you to both explore on your day of leisure.
Explore Chiang Mai's Temples
The city of Chiang Mai has an abundance of beautiful and historic Buddhist temples. Visit the 600-year-old temple of Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, near the summit of Doi Suthep Mount. The temple is almost as famous as the Temple of Emerald Buddha in Bangkok.
Climb to the site is via a magnificent Naga (dragon-headed serpent)
staircase of 306 steps. Inside is an intriguing copper-plated chedi topped by a five-tier gold umbrella which contains partial relics of Lord Buddha. On a clear day, there are incomparable views over the city of Chiang Mai. Other temple visits on this tour include: Wat Suan
Dok, whose large central stupa contains the ashes of Chiang Mai’s royal family; Wat Chedi Luang, where the Emerald Buddha was once enshrined; and Wat Phra Singh, housing a very sacred 1,500 year
old Buddha image.
Enjoy the Cafe Scene
If you love grabbing some coffee and enjoying some time out in a Cafe, well the scene in Chiang Mai is one of the best in Thailand! Our favourites are Good Morning Chiang Mai and Bird’s Nest Cafe, but you could spend weeks bouncing from place to place and never get sick of it. The cafes really are the bomb and one of the best things to do in Chiang Mai.
Go Shopping at the Night Bazaar
The night bazaar in Chiang Mai is an absolute must for anyone who wants to dive into the myriad options for gifts and trinkets from Chiang Mai as well as various practical items for travellers. Hundreds of vendors begin setting up their stalls around 6 PM. But the night bazaar doesn’t start kicking off until an hour or so later.
Get A Sak Yant From a Monk
If you’re done with Chiang Mai sightseeing and you’d like to commemorate your Thailand adventure – get a sak yant. If you’ve ever wanted to get a bamboo tattoo, then Chiang Mai is the place to do it. Luckily there’s an incredible way to have this experience too.
A sak yant is a traditional, sacred tattoo in the Buddhist religion that is performed by an Ajarn, or tattoo master. These Ajarns are often Buddhist monks, and the sak yants given are ancient script and designs that offer protection and strength to the person wearing it. To ensure to minimise the risk of infection, I would suggest asking your hotel for the best places to have one of these tattoos done!
Cliff Diving at the Hang Dong Rock Quarry
Originally used as a mine to clear out limestone, the quarry has now filled with water that glows a vibrant turquoise green. The massive pool is deep enough to launch from the highest cliffs, some of them up to 12m high. If you would rather take a dip without taking the dive, there are plenty of spots you can just swim out. It can be hard to find, so hiring a scooter or songthaew is the best way to get there.

Your driver will collect you from your hotel early in the morning and drive you out of the city and into the heart of the countryside to spend the day with these majestic animals.
Enjoy a full day visit to Elephant Nature Park; a natural home and sanctuary for Thai elephants. You will learn about the rescued and orphaned elephants and their individual stories. You will have an opportunity to observe the incredible giants on the viewing platform as they roam the park with their family groups. No riding and bathing activities in the park so you can focus on spending a quality time observing and being with the herds.

Excursion Half Day Local Life Along Ping River by Boat & Samlor | Private
After a lovely morning at leisure, you will have enough time to grab a snack to tide you over in the city centre before being invited on a local boat tour experience own the Mae Ping River.
There is no better way to leave the busy city streets behind and relax for a while on the water by a traditional Thai wooden boat, carried along the cool waters of the Ping river. Samlors (three-wheeled bikes) have been used in Thailand for over 60 years. They have evolved greatly during that time and continue to prove to be a very useful mode of transportation. Though motorcycle taxis are becoming more common for quick trips, there’s still nothing like a Samlor for carrying a load or sightseeing in a bit more comfort.
This relaxing tour takes you to Wat Chai Mongkok Pier to start a cruise of the Mae Ping River by local long-tail boat for 30 minutes. Softly navigating the river, the river soon shows its true rural identity as the city view will be replaced by scenes of wide water and green trees.
You will see traditional wooden houses interspersed with modern
residences, and colourful scenery and witness the local lifestyle along the river banks. The boat chugs on to reach its destination point the “Thai Farmer’s House”, a traditional local-style teak wooden house, and vegetable and fruit garden.
Agriculture remains Thailand’s largest source of income and here the visitor can discover the basic elements-rice, local herbs, fruits, and fishing-all thriving in a chemical-free environment. Sit down and relax over a fresh fruit or herb juice, together with a plate of newly prepared mixed fruit, which is included in the price of your excursion.
But you may also wish to experience the signature noodle dish of the North of Thailand; called “Khao Soi” Here at “Thai Farmer’s house” the dish is prepared to a very special recipe which brings out the unique flavour of the mild, creamy curry soup. (not included, but can be paid for on the spot) A well-chosen selection of side dishes accompanies the main ingredients of the meal. Cups of freshly brewed local coffee and other beverages are also available.
The next stop is a fresh food market to see the abundance of crops grown in this fertile area. From the market, take a local 3-wheeled trishaw, in Thailand called a Samlor, along Tapae Road, through the city wall gates into Chiang Mai historical old town, passing ancient Buddhist temples, along Rajdamnern Road to see the Three Kings Monument before returning to your hotel by car.

Jade-hued waves concealing rainbows of fish wash white-gold beaches wrapped in Phuketian heritage: Phuket (ภูเก็ต), Thailand's dazzling largest island, is so diverse you may never want to leave.
The pearly white, palm- and casuarina-fringed beaches that ring Phuket's southern and western coasts are the island's key bounty. Each beach is different, from the northwest's upmarket Surin and Ao Bang Thao (with their luxe resorts and, in Bang Thao, glossy beach clubs) to mellow, jungled Rawai on far south Phuket, or the infamous west-coast sin city of Patong, home of hangovers and go-go bars. So there's space for everyone, whether you're a backpacking couple, a luxury jetsetter, a wandering budgeteer or a travelling family on the hunt for seaside fun.
