About your itinerary

? Don't forget that if something isn't quite right we can make changes to the itinerary.
It was a pleasure to speak to you yesterday and find out more about your plans for an amazing trip to Europe. I am therefore delighted to present you with this adventure, which takes in Porto, Lisbon, Rome, Sardinia and Corsica.
I have included some incredible hotels across these destinations, which will allow you to access the very best these stunning locations have to offer. Your city stays are full of character and super well located allowing you to explore with ease, and return back to a comfortable, chic base. You will have breakfast taken care of across all of these properties.
Across the islands I have split your time across two properties in both Sardinia and Corsica, which will allow you to experience both the north and south. These include some of my personal favourites, like the stunning wellness focused Tramas Hotel & Spa and some time in a converted lighthouse at the Faro Capo Spartivento.
Knowing you and Anne are foodies and enjoy getting out into nature, I have included some authentic experiences that will allow you to do just that! I have also added car hire for your time in Sardinia and Corsica, to give you that freedom we discussed.
I have not included your flights from Seattle as you mentioned you would like to use your points, but I can add these should you want me to. You will be arriving in to Porto and then leaving from Paris . This is one of the best international airports connected to BIA in Corsica, but if you would prefer to fly home from another airport I can adjust this.
I have absolutely loved putting this getaway together for you Kathleen and cannot wait to hear your thoughts on it.
As you are looking to travel in April (which is now  just around the corner!) and as there are so many elements to this fantastic trip, if you love what you're seeing, I would love to start securing everything for you over the weekend, to make sure we don't out on availability.
I have included a link to make a deposit payment of $5000 which would allow me to do this ahead of our scheduled call on Monday.  We can still make amendments if we do this, but it would allow me to secure the accommodation which are the elements that are most dynamic in terms of availability.
I will be in the office on Saturday and Sunday if you would like to speak about this adventure before our scheduled call on Monday.
Best travels,

Welcome to Porto

Text Welcome to Porto
Opening up like a pop-up book from the banks of the Rio Douro, edgy-yet-opulent Porto entices with its historic center and sumptuous food and wine.
Porto’s charms are as subtle as the nuances of an aged tawny port, best savoured slowly on a romp through the hilly backstreets of Miragaia, Ribeira and Massarelos. It’s the quiet moments of reflection and the snapshots of daily life that you’ll remember most: the slosh of the Douro against the docks; the snap of laundry drying in river winds; the sound of port glasses clinking; the sight of young lovers discreetly tangled under a landmark bridge, on the rim of a park fountain, in the crumbling notch of a graffiti-blasted wall.
Beyond Porto’s alley-woven historic heart, contemporary architects have left their idiosyncratic stamp on the city’s skyline. Winging Porto into the 21st century is Álvaro Siza Vieira’s crisply minimalist Museu de Arte Contemporânea and Rem Koolhaas’ daringly iconic Casa da Música. Public art is everywhere, from azulejos (hand-painted tiles) glamming up the metro to street art tattooed across crumbling medieval walls. Costah and Hazul, who always work incognito, have blazed their patterns along the streets of the Aliados, Miragaia and Massarelos.
With much-lauded chefs like Pedro Lemos, Ricardo Costa, Rui Paula and José Avillez shaking the pans, the city's culinary star continues to rise. Take Vasco Coelho Santos at the new Euskalduna Studio, for instance, wowing with highly experimental 10-course menus, Vítor Matos at Michelin-starred Antiqvvm, or José Cordeiro at The Blini, an upscale marisquería putting stunning riffs on Atlantic-fresh seafood in Gaia. Petiscarias (Portuguese-style tapas bars), gourmet steakhouses, brunch cafes, hallowed port cellars, craft beer bars, food markets – you name it, Porto nails it. Bom apetite!

This amazing two to three hours hike will take you to Valle della Luna, or "Moon Valley", a Lost Paradise not to be missed during your stay in Sardinia.
A scenic beauty and nature, the area of Capo Testa it's simply wonderful. The Promontory was one of the last place in Europe populated by hippies, living in the caves since the 60s. Today you can only find few people staying for few days in the area. It is a very quiet and peaceful place, where you will be kept company by the wild goats that run up and down the valley.
In the past it was used by the Roman for the quarries, and in some places you can also see the Spanish watchtowers overlooking the Straight of Bonifacio, Corsica.
After the hike you'll be relaxing in this soft and sandy beach o Spiaggia Rena di Ponente. Swim, have lunch or just enjoy a nice aperitif at the Beach Bar with amazing view!
Next you'll head to beautiful Santa Teresa Gallura. This city is located in the Northern point of the Island of Sardinia. From here you can see the beautiful coast line of Corsica and the town of Bonifacio. Text Drive from Olbia to Chia
Today you will embark on the Sardian leg of your costa adventure, and pick up your car to make getting around the island a breeze.

The drive from the airport is around 4 hours long, here are my top tips for where to stop along the way.
Nuoro : The Athens of Sardinia
Nuoro is the proud, rugged heart of Sardinia. In fact, the region is called “Barbagia” because when the local “barbarians” forced back the Romans. This remote hilltop town was most noted for banditry until the 19th century when several renowned artists, including poet Sebastiano Satta, novelist Salvatore Satta, sculptor Francesco Ciusa and Nobel Prize-winning author Grazia Deledda were born here. Thanks to these personalities, Nuoro boasts some of the island’s most important museums, like the Museo MAN, Sardinia’s best modern art museum, the Museo Cuisa, as well as ethnographic and archaeological museums detailing the region’s history. Or you can just wander the Rione Santu Predu, the historic artist’s district, which still looks much as it did in the 19th century. No matter what, try to track down su filindeu, a pasta half as thick as angel hair that only two women know how to make. It’s sometimes available at Al Ciusa and Il Refugio.
Su Nuraxi di Barumini : The Symbol of Ancient Sardinia
Su Nuraxi di Barumini is the most important of Sardinia’s famous “nuraghes”. These megalithic structures emerged in the second millennium BC and are unique to Sardinia – in fact, there’s no parallel anywhere else in the world. These conical towers, made of heavy stone, could reach up to three stories, and had interior spiral staircases and vaulted chambers. While some 7000 nuraghes have been found, Su Nuraxi di Barumini is by far the finest. Built up from around 1500BC to 600 AD, Su Nuraxi consists of a central tower, and four corner towers connected by a bastion, all of which is surrounded by some 50 huts, wells and cisterns. A guided tour will bring you through the site, through the small single room huts where the villagers lived, and up the 3500-year-old staircase to the top of the tower so you can see the settlement from above.
Cantina Argiolas : Fine Vines
The Cantina Argiolas winery was founded by Antonio Argiolas in 1938, and weathered the difficulties brought on by World War II. In the 1970s, his sons invested in revamping the vineyards and cellar technology, turning the Cantina Argiolas into Sardinia’s first modern winery. Today, the winery is run by the fourth generation of the Argiolas family, and their ecologically responsible vineyards cover over 230 hectares. On your visit to the cantina, you can join a guided tour and tasting to learn about the winery’s history, and how they produce some of Sardinia’s best wine using native grape varieties, and finish it off with a sampling of their wine paired with Sardinian specialties. Or take a cellar masterclass to delve even deeper into the secrets of wine production and pairing. If you’re more of a foodie, they even offer a tour with a larger tasting menu at the restaurant. Reservations for tours should be booked in advance at.

The excursion includes a visit to two of the best wineries of south Sardinia. This part of the island, which looks towards Africa from a broad Gulf,is bordered by lagoons and wetlands where the flamingo's nest.
Right at the center of the arc formed by the Gulf lies the city of Cagliari. Behind it spreads the Campidano plain. To the north and east of the city rises a half-circle of gently rolling land around small towns and villages, olive groves, fields, and vineyards. For thousands of years, this land has produced bread, oil, and wine for the city
You will visit the winery and learn about the whole process from the grape to the bottle. After the visit, you will taste four kinds of wine with local products.
After visiting the first winery,  you'll stop for a typical Sardinian lunch in a traditional farmhouse or restaurant. Here you can taste the local products like cheese, olives, cured meat, fresh homemade pasta, the Sardinian piglet, homemade dessert, seasonal fruits, coffee, and of course, the famous Sardinian mirto.

On to your second hotel in Corsica today, you will drive from the southern tip to the island up to the north, Bonifacio to Bastia.
There are some beautiful destinations en route, here are my recommendations.
Porto-Vecchio: Portside “C'est Chic”
Porto-Vecchio may mean “Old Port”, but the town on the French island of Corsica is very much in vogue. What began as an ancient Roman settlement was later preserved by the Genoese and has since become a teeming center of boutiques, cafes, bars and restaurants perched above a modern marina. Take a stroll through the Place de République, Porto-Vecchio’s main square, where a lively restaurant and bar scene will lure you in with tasty French and Corsican cuisine. During the high season, the square transforms into a hub for lovers of nightlife. After sipping on a spritz in the afternoon, grab your towel and head to one of the many beaches along Porto-Vecchio’s north and south. Take a dip in turquoise waters with a backdrop of luscious mountains at perhaps the most famous beach on the island, Palombaggia. For a historic detour, take in the ruins of the old citadel, the Bastion de France, or revel in the nineteenth century Roman style facade of the St Jean-Baptiste church.
Aleria: Ruins of a Ghost Town
The unspoiled village of Aléria is rich with an ancient past for the Roman history buff or curious traveler alike. Excavations suggest the area has been occupied for at least 8,000 years. In 565BC, people of the ancient Phoenician civilisation were chased from their homeland by the Persians and settled as a community in Aleria, where the origins of the modern-day town can be traced. Ancient Romans then occupied the land until the collapse of the Roman Empire. Gain entry through the Musée Archéologique d’Aléria to walk through the remnants of the ancient town, villa and necropolis that once stood. The Museum Jerome-Carcopino has an array of sculptures, ancient pottery, money, busts and archaeological discoveries to peruse. Make sure to stop at the Genoese fort, a classified historic monument, constructed at the end of the 16th century.

Ucelluline Waterfall: Waterfall in Love
On the sweeping road between the villages of Santa Maria Poggio and San Nicolao, the Ucelluline Waterfall spills into an emerald basin flanked by ragged rocks and flowering maquis. Pass farmhouses and wandering cattle on the journey to the cascade, which overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea. If you peer out to the water you might catch the silhouetted archipelago of the Italian islands in the distance. To the left of the waterfall, find a swinging rope to jump into the sparkling waters that flow out to the sea. As you take in the magical surrounds, hear the song of the small birds who nest in the cliff – the namesake of the waterfall, with “ucelluline” meaning “little birds”.

As you head from Bastia to Domaine Alzipratu, these are some places you may want to stop along the way:

Saint-Florent: Gulf of Indulgence
Pleasure boats gently bob in the water and fresh seafood is served along the promenade of Saint-Florent’s gorgeous marina, on the north-west gulf of Corsica. The city is nestled between the towering mountains of Cap Corse and the beachy Agriates desert, making for a spectacular view from any vantage point. After treating yourself to a gelato at the port, stroll into the Old Town centered around the Place Doria, where you can gather with locals to enjoy an espresso and join a game of petanque. A walk from town to the promontory will lead you to the 17th century citadel, built by the Genoese for the battle of control over Mediterranean waters. Saint-Florent is just a 10-minute drive from Corsica’s best vineyards in Patrimonio, where the clay and limestone hills produce unique flavors that have put the region on the map for wine connoisseurs. Beaches of fine white sand near-unrivaled in the Mediterranean will beckon you for a day in the sun after wining and dining.
San Michele de Murato : The Checkerboard Church
San Michele de Murato dates back to 1280 and overlooks the Gulf of Saint Florent in a wonderful display of verdant green and white limestone. According to legend, the villagers of Murato awoke one morning to see the church built by divine means. Its round arches bend graciously into the sky and flaunt an exterior of detailed masonry. Take a close look at the outside of the church to see carvings of animals, people and symbols representative of the Pisan era. Head to the north wall and you’ll find a depiction of the Garden of Eden, where Eve is accepting an apple from a devious serpent. Inside the church, faded frescos are adorned with 15th century art of the Annunciation, and a simple altar is placed austerely at the front and center. Lose yourself in the stories built into the stonework at one of the most beautiful churches in Corsica.
Montemaggiore : Fiction and Festivity
Dwarfed by the dramatic Monte Grasso mountain, Montemaggiore may at first appear a peripheral village of Corsica – but entering its center, you will soon be endeared. Old houses with uniquely sculpted doors maintain the quirky charm of centuries passed, squashed together haphazardly amongst original stone sculptures. The “Casa Colonna d’Anfiani” house was the fictional birthplace of the mother of Don Juan and still stands proudly in the village. For a historical monument entrenched in reality, visit the 18th century Church of Saint-Augustin on the edge of the village and admire the largest dome of any church in Corsica. Locals of Montemaggiore love their traditions and celebration, with high spirits spilling onto the streets at all times of the year. Make a trip in July for “A Fiera di l’Alivu”, a tribute to the olive oil production integral to the village’s economy. Or, stop by in Winter for the “pulenda figatellu” celebration when the village square is brilliantly set alight with the flames of a bonfire.
