Retiro Park
Being one of the largest parks in the city, strolling through Retiro Park is easily one of the best things to do in Madrid if you want to escape the bustle of the city itself.
It’s totally huge and well worth a visit on a nice sunny day. Once here, head on over to see the art within the 19th Century Crystal Palace, which got its influence from the one that used to exist in London.
Afterwards, get your rowing on at Lago Grande which is lovely in the sunshine. Though be warned, the sun can be really strong in those Spanish summers.
Gran Via
Gran Via is relatively easy to visit if you’re already in Retiro Park or at the Temple of Debod. This makes it a totally easy place to explore between the more ‘concrete’ plans you’ll have for your day.
Now, I always say that Gran Via kinda reminds me of Fifth Avenue in New York. It’s got that kind of vibe and lots of shopping spots, too.
Malasaña district
The Malasaña district is probably one of the coolest neighborhoods to explore whilst in Madrid. The whole area has a great buzz and is a great place to spend an early evening in all the little bars, cafes, and restaurants.
For me, going to the Malasaña district is one of the best things to do in Madrid if you fancy a good night out. Just expect to get back to your room in the wee hours!
Las Ventas
Las Ventas is the largest bullring in all of Spain. It’s totally huge and one of the best things to do in Madrid if you want to explore some of the city’s history.
Now, Bullfighting is something that’s quite polarising if you’re not from Spain and not something I’m personally comfortable with.
Maybe, instead of seeing actually bullfighting, you can catch a concert that is sometimes held in the summer months. People from the Beatles to Coldplay have performed here!
See the Temple of Debod
This ancient Egyptian temple was historically within Aswan in Egypt, however, there was a global search for a new site due to the construction of a huge dam that threatened its existence in Egypt.
Madrid was gifted the temple by the Egyptian government as a sign of gratitude for helping preserve other significant historical sights in Egypt.
Take a wander through and within this beautiful, slightly eery temple that’ll send you back thousands of years to the time of the Sphinx!
Also, don’t forget to head for a stroll through the inner crypts of the temple itself.
Royal Palace of Madrid
The official residence of the Spanish Royal Family, the Royal Palace of Madrid is a beautiful royal residence that you can actually visit. Not only that, but it’s also one of the largest palaces in all of Europe and one of the best things to do in Madrid if you love a bit of regal history.
Explore the markets
The markets in Madrid are amazing, especially if you’re looking for some local foods and dishes that you can nibble on!
For instance, the historic Mercado de San Miguel is filled with loads of little stalls and goodies that I promise will leave you stuffed.
Stroll through Plaza Mayor
Plaza Mayor is as obvious as it sounds! A big plaza that’s fit for a mayor! Take a wander through the square and explore some of the many restaurants that are hidden just behind the plaza itself. It’s a huge space and there are lots of little shops and cafes all around the area.
Stroll the historic center
Now, this might seem like some generic advice but it’s one of the best things to do in Madrid that we totally loved.

Some cities blast you away, others slowly win you over. Seville disarms and seduces you. Its historic center, lorded over by a colossal Gothic cathedral, is an intoxicating mix of resplendent Mudéjar palaces, baroque churches, and winding medieval lanes. Flamenco clubs keep the intimacy and intensity of this centuries-old tradition alive whilst aristocratic mansions recall the city’s past as a showcase Moorish capital and, later, a 16th-century metropolis rich on the back of New World trade.
But while history reverberates all around, Seville is as much about the here and now as the past. It’s about eating tapas in a crowded bar or seeing out the end of the day over a drink on a buzzing plaza. The sevillanos have long since mastered the art of celebrating and the city’s great annual festivals, notably the Semana Santa and Feria de Abril, are among Spain’s most heartfelt.

Alcazar Of Seville
One of the most recognizable spots from Seville has to be the Alcazar.
Forming part of a Royal Palace (the Spanish royal family still uses that), this UNESCO World Heritage site is one of the best things to do in Seville for sure.
Inside, the private rooms, halls, and gorgeous staterooms are on the upper level and open for viewing (if you pay). Apparently, most of the palace complex is built in a Mudejar style and was developed centuries ago. Often this style was used for Moorish buildings that were non-Islamic.
Whilst you’re here, walk between the courtyards and keep your eyes peeled for the beautifully carved ceilings. The palace is enormous.
Seville Cathedral
Seville Cathedral is a pretty enormous place that’s hard to miss in the city itself.
It has a whopping 80 chapels (give or take a few), making it the world’s largest cathedral by volume! Trust me when I say, this is huge.
Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Seville Cathedral was once home to a mosque that stood on the site itself. Reminders of that past can be still seen in the Court of the Orange Trees to the north of the cathedral, too -so, keep your eyes peeled.
Giralda Tower
Giralda Towe is possibly one of the most famous symbols of Seville (and hard to miss). Sitting right next door to the cathedral, it has a whole heap of Moorish influence from when It was the minaret to the mosque that once stood here.
Still, to this day, it’s one of the best things to do in Seville if you want to explore the city’s history. The thing that surprised me most is that the tower has no stairs… at all!
Space Metropol Parasol
If you’re looking for views over Seville, pop to the Space Metropol Parasol at La Encarnación Square. Opened a few years ago, it’s one of Seville’s newest and coolest things to see. Once here, make sure to take a stroll around the upper levels (especially around sunset).
Plaza de Espana
You can’t miss Plaza de Espana when visiting Seville. It’s a colossal monument that was built (almost 100 years ago) for the Ibero-American Exposition and is pretty immense!
Maria Luisa Park
Perched in central Seville, Maria Luisa is probably one of Seville’s largest parks, which once belonged to San Telmo Palace.
With hundreds of years of history, it’s one of the best things to do in Seville if you fancy slowing down your pace. Walk along the vast trails and explore the botanic garden. It’s a gorgeous spot to see and is easily combined with a trip to Plaza de Espana.
Tablaos and Flamenco Shows
One of the best pastimes to experience in Seville has to be a Flamenco and Tablaos show.
Now, there are loads of bars and restaurants that will have dancers to watch but a good option for you to see these shows is at Casa de la Memoria – which we love!

Spain’s third-largest city is a magnificent place, content for Madrid and Barcelona to grab the headlines while it gets on with being a wonderfully liveable city with thriving cultural, eating, and nightlife scenes. Never afraid to innovate, Valencia diverted its flood-prone river to the outskirts and converted the former riverbed into a glorious green ribbon of park winding right through the city.
On it are the strikingly futuristic buildings of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, designed by local boy Santiago Calatrava. Other brilliant contemporary buildings grace the city, which also has a fistful of fabulous Modernista buildings, great museums, a long stretch of beach and a large, characterful old quarter. Valencia, surrounded by its huerta, a fertile zone of market gardens, is famous as the home of rice dishes such as paella, but its buzzy dining scene offers plenty more besides; it's a superb spot for eating.

Llotja de la Seda (Silk Exchange)
This historic market was once home to silk traders and buyers that thrived hundreds of years ago. It’s a stunning building worth visiting when you’re strolling through Valencia.
Also, the inner courtyard is gorgeous and entry is relatively inexpensive.
Saint Nicholas Church (San Nicolas)
Often nicknamed the Sistine Chapel of Valencia, Saint Nicholas Church is totally stunning! Honestly, once you’ve got yourself inside you’ll totally understand.
There is an entrance cost, but it’s worth seeing one of Valencia’s most iconic (and historic) buildings. Once inside, takes a stroll to see all the Baroque paintings and mural that have been a part of this Gothic church for hundreds of years. It’s totally epic!
El Miguelete Tower (Torre del Micalet)
As part of Santa Maria Cathedral, the El Miguelete Tower is one epic (and historic) place for views across Valencia.
Obviously, you’re not going to get some skyscraper-style views (that you’d get in NYC, say) but it’s totally gorgeous and well worth seeing.
Serranos Towers
The Serranos Towers is another one of those spots you can easily see whilst strolling through Valencia, especially if you’ve just been to the Institute of Modern Art (that’s totally amazing and nearby).
It’s got hundreds of years of history and for a few Euros, you can pop up to the top of the towers, too.
Pope Luna’s Castle
Constructed by the Knight’s Templar, seeing Pope Luna’s Castle is one of the best things to do in Valencia if you want to explore the city’s long historical sites.
Once here, be sure to see the views across the bay and pop on a castle tour if you’ve got time. It’s well worth a little gander.
Plaza de la Virgen
Perched in the old quarter of Valencia, you kinda can’t miss Plaza de la Virgen. You see, it’s surrounded by some of the iconic buildings I’ve already mentioned and really easy to see after visiting the nearby cathedral and climbing Torre del Micalet.

Barcelona is an enchanting seaside city with boundless culture, fabled architecture, and a world-class drinking and dining scene.
The Architecture of the Ages
Barcelona's architectural treasures span 2000-plus years. Towering temple columns, ancient city walls, and subterranean stone corridors provide a window into Roman-era Barcino. Fast forward a thousand years or so to the Middle Ages by taking a stroll through the shadowy lanes of the Gothic quarter, past tranquil plazas, and soaring 14th-century cathedrals. In other parts of town bloom the sculptural masterpieces of Modernisme, a mix of ingenious and whimsical creations by Gaudà and his Catalan architectural contemporaries. Barcelona has also long inspired artists, including Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró, both of whom have major Barcelona museums devoted to their works.
A Moveable Feast
The masters of molecular gastronomy – Albert Adrià , Carles Abellan et al – are part of the long and celebrated tradition of Catalan cooking. Simple, flavourful ingredients – seafood, jamón (cured ham), and market-fresh produce – are transformed into remarkable delicacies and then served in captivating settings. Feast on hearty, rich paella at an outdoor table overlooking the sea or step back to the 1920s at an elegant art nouveau dining room. Barcelona's wide-ranging palate adds further complexity: Basque-style tapas bars, Galician seafood taverns, avant-garde Japanese restaurants and sinful chocolate shops are all essential parts of the culinary landscape.
