About your itinerary

? Don't forget that if something isn't quite right we can make changes to the itinerary.
Ethelda & Wendy,
It was lovely chatting with you on the phone yesterday about your anniversary trip to Spain, I am glad that the samples helped you to picture your dreamy trip. I am therefore delighted to be sending your bespoke itinerary to the gorgeous country of Spain, giving you both the opportunity to explore and discover the beautiful city of Barcelona and finishing with some all-inclusive beach time in Fuerteventura.
Included in your itinerary is everything you need for a magical time, including upgraded business-class international flights, perfectly located accommodations including that ocean-front room at the Secrets in Fuerteventura along with your all-inclusive board, transfers to and for the airports as well as a couple of incredible tours.
And onto your tours! You said that you love architecture, urban design, and music and dance. I have added the fabulous tours we spoke about, one in Barcelona with one of our incredible guides where you'll enjoy the highlights of the city, I find this always helps to get your bearings. I have also included some of my top recommendations for Barcelona that I think you will enjoy. As it is your anniversary, I have also included complimentary tickets to see a Flamenco show in the heart of Barcelona.
While in Futurventura, I have mostly left this section of the itinerary free for you to relax and enjoy some quality time together in a beautiful setting. I have included a 5-hour whale & dolphin watching experience for you to enjoy as I know this was something you were hoping to do while at the beach. You'll be picked up and dropped off at your hotel so no need to worry about anything there.
Your flights are all included and you will leave from Philipedlia and fly to Barcelona via Madrid, getting the longest flight done first. On the way home you'll have two short layovers in Madrid and Boston, this was the best option I could find for you for your return. I have also included your domestic flight from Barcelona to Fuerteventura so you really won't have to worry about a thing!
I have loved curating this itinerary for you both and I know it's going to be a wonderful trip for your anniversary, I'm looking forward to hearing what you think – I hope I nailed it the first time for you! Please do reach out if you have any questions before we catch up on Sunday.
Enjoy and speak soon!
Best wishes,
Samantha McCormack

Text Welcome to Barcelona
Barcelona is a vibrant and colorful city located on the northeastern coast of Spain. It is a city that is rich in history, culture, and art, and is known for its stunning architecture, delicious food, and lively nightlife.
One of the most iconic landmarks in Barcelona is the Sagrada Familia, a stunning basilica designed by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi. The basilica is a masterpiece of modernist architecture and is still under construction, with an estimated completion date of 2026. Another must-see attraction in Barcelona is the Park Guell, also designed by Gaudi. The park is a beautiful and whimsical space filled with colorful mosaics, sculptures, and winding paths that offer stunning views of the city.
For those interested in art, the Picasso Museum is a must-visit. The museum houses an extensive collection of works by the famous artist, including many of his early works.
Barcelona is also known for its delicious food, with a wide variety of restaurants and cafes serving up traditional Spanish dishes such as paella, tapas, and fresh seafood. The city is also home to a thriving nightlife scene, with many bars and clubs staying open late into the night.

La Rambla
Barcelona’s most famous street—a nearly one-mile pedestrianized boulevard from Plaça Cataluyna to Port Vell—is still the strolling route for the city's visitors, even if selfie-stick vendors can’t match the charm of the old-school florists, gelaterías, and candy stalls offering bites of crema catalana (a form of crème brûlée) along the way. To predict your next question: But is it La Rambla or Las Ramblas? Well, it’s really both. Originally, the area consisted of five mini-ramblas: Rambla de Canaletes, Estudis, Sant Josep, Caputxins, and Santa Mònica, but they're often lumped together and today, the street sign says La Rambla. Annoying as it is to keep your purse clenched from pickpockets for a mile, La Rambla has a charm that keeps the 78 million coming.
La Boqueria
La Boqueria might be Barcelona’s oldest market—it started life in 1217 as a mere huddle of meat stalls on La Rambla—but tradition isn’t staid. More than 200 stands unite like a foodie’s choir: traders’ shouts, the clink of glasses, welcome greetings sung out ("holaaaa"). Though, for all the atmosphere, it’s the smell that gets you: warm, ocean-salty, freshly fried fish: the kind that lines your nostrils, excites your stomach, makes your physician tense, and has to be washed down with a glass of cava. Grab a fruit smoothie from the technicolored stalls as you walk in. Then do a lap: the deeper you venture, the better the value.
Catedral de Barcelona
It might not have the quirkiness nor the hype of La Sagrada Família, but it holds court: a giant Gothic temple that looms large against the narrow lanes and matchbox shops. Its site originally housed a Roman temple some 2,000 years ago, when Barcelona was still called Bàrcino (you can track down parts of the old Roman walls and aqueduct nearby). Today, the cathedral’s official name, Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, honors Eulalia, a local girl who refused to accept Roman emperor Diocletian’s demand to recant her Christian faith. It’s beautiful and atmospheric, as religious buildings so often are. Regardless of your personal level of piety, the architecture inside—plus the city view from the short elevator ride to the top—is quite something.
Park Güell
Park Güell is an almost make-believe landscape: home to Barcelona’s famous mosaic lizard—the image on a thousand postcards—plus spiral towers that look like fairground slides. The city’s grandest park began life as a collaboration between entrepreneur Eusebi Güell (hence the park’s name) and Antoni Gaudí. Know that you need to book in advance online, and arrive promptly for your allotted slot—there’s zero wiggle room with timing. An interesting add-on is Casa Museu Gaudí, the pink spired building inside the park. It’s not included in your entrance fee (so factor in an extra €5.50/$5.50 per person), but Gaudí actually lived there for 19 years—which makes it the home tour of all home tours.
La Sagrada Família
It’s practically illegal to go to Barcelona and not visit La Sagrada Família, Gaudí’s extraordinary temple dedicated to the Holy Family—also known as the world’s largest unfinished church. The illusive end date remains a mystery—local theorists speculate it will never be done in order to preserve its in-process cachet. Be sure to book a ticket ahead (dates are available three months out) so you can get inside and gawk at the vaults and rainbow stained glass. When you go, spring for the extra audio guide and a trip up to one of the two towers—the Nativity Façade is our favorite.

It is time to hit some of the highlights in this fabulous half-day semi-private tour!
Barcelona is a city that has it all! Blue skies and sunshine, 4 kilometers of golden beaches, delicious food and stunning architecture by Antonio Gaudi. On this semi-private tour – with no more than 12 people in your group – you will explore the two major highlights of the city, both designed by Gaudi, and both now UNESCO World Heritage Listed sites: Park Guell and La Sagrada Familia.
You will first meet your expert English-speaking guide at the iconic Park Guell and take advantage of your priority skip-the-line access for a 2-hour guided tour.
Enjoy access to this vast park with over 17 hectares of gardens and monuments. Explore this colorful wonderland of sparkling mosaics, and eccentric sculptures inspired by animals and nature. Gaudi began work here in 1900 and loved it so much he also built himself a house here.
See the famous dragon staircase in the center of the park, wend your way upwards and end at the top of the hill with spectacular panoramic views overlooking the city below.
Next, we'll embark on a short drive to La Sagrada Familia, indisputably Antoni Gaudi’s most famous work, in private transportation. With skip-the-line access, you'll have more time to appreciate the spectacular interior and exterior of this modernist masterpiece. Admire the intricate details of the Nativity and Passion facades, and step inside to witness the awe-inspiring stained glass windows. Your visit will also include a glimpse of Gaudi's final resting place within his creation.
After a fantastic day exploring some of Barcelona’s best bits, it will be time to end the tour for the day where you will the evening to chill at your rooftop pool in the hotel, or carry on exploring!
* Please ask the hotel reception for directions & ensure you arrive at the meeting place listed as there are several entrances to Park Guell.

The Spanish gypsy folk dance of flamenco traces its origins to Andalusia, in southern Spain, but has thrived in Barcelona, thanks in a large part to the work of Tablao Cordobes.
In 1970 the show biz entrepreneur Matías Colsada opened this tablao on Las Ramblas, naming it after famous bullfighter of the era, El Cordobés, and appointing the guitarist Luis Adame and his wife Irene Alba, a dancer, to manage the venue. Adame and Alba brought the stars of southern Spain to their Barcelona stage, including Camarón de la Isla, Farruco, Chocolate, Güito, Manolete, La Tati, Juan Villar, Lole, Manuelo Bambino and Manuela Carrasco.
These days it is mostly tourists, keen to sample an authentic flamenco show in Barcelona who frequent the nightly concerts, but you never know who you might bump into. Keanu Reeves is amongst the stars to have dropped by.

Between Corralejo in Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and the island of Lobos there is one of the best places for whale and dolphin watching in the wild, in the Canary Islands. Due to the great biodiversity, the sightings of these graceful marine mammals is almost certain here.
With only 12 passengers on board you can enjoy this moving moment in peace. Following this unique experience, you head to the beautiful beach of Playa Concha. Once you anchor at this heavenly bay, the bathing fun begins. Go kayaking, try the trendy stand-up paddle board and discover the lively underwater world while snorkeling.
Alternatively, just relax on board, soak up the sun, and enjoy the sea breeze. Finally, an unforgettable dolphin and whale-watching tour in Corralejo ends with a cool drink and a tasty snack.
Please note that although the probability of a sighting is extremely high, it cannot be guaranteed. The experienced crew will do everything necessary to make this extraordinary experience possible.
We ask for your understanding that under no circumstances should these sea creatures be disturbed, and therefore any rapprochement and interaction will be exclusively left to the dolphins.
