Sail away or speedboat for the famous Saona Island tour
Your adventure begins early in the morning with transportation from your resort in Punta Cana. Your driver will be taking you to the vibrant fishing village of Bayahibe, which is less than an hour away from La Romana. During your ride to Bayahibe, you’ll get to view several pristine beaches and more breathtaking sights along the southeastern coast, giving you a preview of what you’ll encounter later on during your Saona Island tour.
When you arrive to Bayahibe, friendly and knowledgeable bilingual staff and crew will be there to greet you. Then you’ll be ready to board the vessel that will take you to Saona Island across the turquoise Dominican Caribbean. Depending on the operations of the day, you will board either a catamaran to take it easy on a gentle cruise, or a speedboat to feel the thrill and exhilaration on your way to this island paradise. And later on for the return ride to the mainland, you’ll take the opposite means of transportation that took you to Saona Island.
Take a swim in a natural pool in the Dominican Caribbean
As you sail away on your cruise or feel the excitement of speedboating through the shimmering Dominican sea, your guides will take you to a hidden natural pool where the water is shallow, peaceful and warm, providing an ideal place for an unforgettable swimming adventure. When you arrive at the Eco-park you’ll receive a brief orientation to give you the ‘lay of the land.’ Then you can organize your visit as you wish – It’s up to you! Head off to enjoy a ride around the property on one of the 17 different equine breeds to admire the beautiful landscapes, rivers and hills covered with tropical vegetation and palm trees.
You will love visiting a menagerie of favorite farm animals and exotic friends. Animal lovers will be happy to stop by a small animal rescue shelter and there’s even some ostriches strutting about. You’ll learn about 18 cattle breeds, and even try your hand at milking a few of them. Talk about a ‘hands-on’ experience!
Take a walk to visit a typical Dominican home and learn about rural life including a demonstration of a centuries old invention – a ‘trapiche’ – used to process sugar cane and other crops throughout this and other Caribbean islands.
Cool off with some aquatic fun
The Maimon River meanders through the Eco-park property and you’ll head to its banks to enjoy a variety of aquatic activities available. Work on your balancing skills as you navigate the river on paddleboards or challenge one another with a race as you splash about in kayaks. You can even enjoy a leisurely ride on the river aboard a bamboo raft.
Take a relaxing stroll through the park’s fruit orchards and taste samples of delicious local tropical fruit. And don’t forget make a stop at the panoramic lookout platform and fly in the sky on swings on the hill close to the beehive sanctuary before heading back to your resort.
