Our adventure begins in Tokyo, the bustling capital city known for its futuristic skyscrapers, vibrant street fashion, and world-class cuisine. Explore the iconic neighborhoods of Shibuya and Harajuku, where you can witness the latest fashion trends and indulge in delicious street food. Visit the historic Asakusa district to see the majestic Senso-ji Temple and stroll along the picturesque Nakamise Shopping Street. Don't forget to take a trip to the top of Tokyo Skytree for breathtaking views of the city.
From Tokyo you will visit Hakone with a one-night stay, where the soothing hot springs blend seamlessly with breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, creating an unforgettable escape into the heart of Japan's natural beauty.
Next, we will travel to Kyoto, a city renowned for its well-preserved traditional architecture and serene temples. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the famous Golden Pavilion, Kinkaku-ji, and the peaceful Zen gardens of Ryoan-ji.
Our final destination is Osaka, a vibrant city known for its lively street food scene and vibrant nightlife. Explore the historic Osaka Castle and take a boat ride along the picturesque Dotonbori Canal.
I have included a full itinerary of exploring everything each area has to offer to begin with as I know you wanted some days without anything planned so that you both can explore at your leisure. So I thought I would include as much as possible and of course, we can remove anything from the itinerary should you wish.
I truly think this is a perfect first-time trip to Japan with an array of full-day tours and half-day tours but still allowing you to have the very best experience within Japan and still have time to self-explore this amazing country.
With this being said, I am conscious we are over the amount you were looking to spend but with this being said just around the corner I am pleased to have found availability this late in the game and I know how excited you are to visit Japan.

Tokyo, one of the world's most advanced capitals, is a city of contradictions. While it is famous for its vibrant neon-lit streets, it also boasts expansive parklands, tranquil shrines, and temples, and meticulously maintained gardens. Beyond its surface, Tokyo is a blend of modern digital trends and conspicuous consumption, but it also holds deep roots in traditional culture. Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples coexist with towering skyscrapers, serving as reminders of a more contemplative era. At the center of the bustling city lies the serene Imperial Palace, the residence of the ruling emperor and a tangible connection to Tokyo's historical past. Behind the bustling shopping, entertainment, and commercial hubs, you can discover charming wooden houses, private gardens with carefully pruned bonsai trees, and the tranquility of Hamarikyu Garden.
When you arrive at the airport, an Out Of Office Representative will be waiting for you in the arrival lobby.

Take a full-day tour of Tokyo with a local guide. Begin in Asakusa, the old town known for its traditional atmosphere. Explore Sensoji, the oldest temple in Tokyo, and stroll along Nakamise, a historic shopping street offering traditional snacks and souvenirs. Then, experience a unique mode of transportation by traveling down the Sumidagawa River on Tokyo's Water Bus. Enjoy the scenic views of the city's bridges and skyline from the water.
Afterward, visit Hamarikyu Garden, a beautiful Japanese garden from the Edo period, surrounded by futuristic skyscrapers in the Shiodome district. Take a break at a tea house on a small island in the park's lake, where you can savor a cup of matcha and Japanese sweets. This tour showcases the contrasting elements of Tokyo, highlighting its rich history and modern development.
Later, explore Meiji Shrine, a sacred place honoring Emperor Meiji and a popular venue for traditional Japanese weddings. Take a half-day tour of Tokyo with a local guide. The Tokyo Skytree is a new television broadcasting tower and an iconic landmark in the city. Standing at a height of 634 meters (which can be read as 'Musashi', a historic name of the Tokyo region), it is the tallest building in Japan and the second tallest structure in the world. At the base of the tower, there is a large shopping complex. From the observation deck, which is the highest of its kind in Japan and one of the highest in the world, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Tokyo.
Your next stop is Ryogoku, a renowned destination for sumo in Japan. You will have the opportunity to explore the Sumo Museum, which is located within one of the country's largest Sumo stadiums. This museum offers a captivating insight into the intricate and ceremonial world of sumo. However, please note that the museum may be closed on certain days due to preparations for sumo tournaments. In such cases, you will instead visit the nearby Hokusai Museum, dedicated to the famous ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai. This museum is closed on Mondays and showcases Hokusai's iconic masterpiece, The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, which is often synonymous with Japanese art.
Finally, make your way to the magnificent Ueno Park, which is one of the largest parks in Japan and boasts stunning cherry blossoms during the spring season. Within the park, you'll find numerous museums, shrines, and temples that you can explore at your leisure after taking a stroll with your guide (guide not included).

Experience the enchanting world of teamLab Planets, also known as the 'Instagram Museum', where projection mapping and human interaction come together to redefine the boundaries of art. After that, explore the Museum of Emerging Science, a bilingual and interactive science museum featuring exhibits on environmental issues, robots, information technology, biology, and space exploration.
Take a ride on Tokyo's monorail to return to the mainland and visit Akihabara, also known as Electric Town. Akihabara is renowned for its numerous electronic shops that offer a wide range of gadgets and similar devices. However, in recent times, Akihabara has gained even more popularity for its 'otaku' culture. The term 'otaku' refers to individuals who are obsessed with cosplay, manga, anime, gaming, or other aspects of Japanese pop culture, and Akihabara's many stores cater to all types of otaku. Even the nearby Kanda Shrine has a unique anime twist to its story!
You have the option to take a relaxing coffee break in either Odaiba or Akihabara.

Hakone is a natural wonderland known for its hot springs, outdoor activities, and stunning views of Mount Fuji. Located less than 100 kilometers from Tokyo, it is a popular weekend getaway for city dwellers looking to escape the hustle and bustle. In addition to its picturesque mountains, lakes, and views of Mount Fuji, Hakone also boasts a rich history with fascinating historical sites to explore.
Today, you will depart from Tokyo and travel to Hakone, which is one of the gateways to Mt. Fuji and the surrounding national park. Throughout the day, your local guide will be with you on this journey. The tour will conclude at your Hakone accommodation.
Your guide will help you send your luggage to Kyoto, which is included in today's cost. After that, you will travel together to Hakone and explore the Hakone 'loop'. The loop can be done in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise order, and your guide will decide the best route based on where you are staying tonight, the season, and how busy Hakone is during your visit. The loop usually includes a trip to the Gora area to ride the Hakone Ropeway to the Owakudani volcano crater, where you can try the delicious black eggs boiled in water from the volcano. A cruise across Lake Ashi is also part of the day's itinerary. On clear days, you may even catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji over the mountain range.
After the tour, your guide will accompany you to your accommodation and assist you with the check-in process. They will then leave you to enjoy the amenities at your ryokan or hotel.
On this tour, you may have the fortune of catching a sight of Mt. Fuji. However, it is important to keep in mind that this mountain is known for being shy and only becomes visible when the weather is clear. The best visibility is typically from November to March.

Kyoto is a must-see destination in Japan. It was the nation's former capital and the residence of the emperor from 794 until 1868. With 2,000 religious buildings, including 1,600 Buddhist temples and 400 Shinto shrines, as well as palaces, gardens, and associated architecture, Kyoto is one of the best-preserved cities in Japan. It boasts 17 UNESCO World Heritage sites. Kyoto represents the "Japan of old" and offers a glimpse into the country's historical and cultural past. Beyond the modern skyscrapers, the city's narrow alleyways are filled with tea houses and kimono-clad geisha hurrying from one elegant function to another.
Today, you will be driven to Odawara Station in a private car. From there, you will board the Shinkansen Odawara to Kyoto in Standard Class. Once you arrive, an English-speaking assistant will accompany you to your hotel in a private car.

The Fushimi Inari Shrine, renowned worldwide, attracts millions of visitors annually. Along the mountain trail, thousands of vibrant red torii gates create a visually breathtaking experience. Inari, the Japanese deity of the rice harvest, is also believed to bestow abundant fortune upon businesses, which explains its popularity among merchants.
The entire Mt. Inari (233 meters) is covered by the shrine complex. During this tour, you will have the opportunity to visit the main shrine hall and then proceed through the famous tunnel of Vermillion gates.
Next, explore a temple that experienced a devastating fire and was rebuilt a century later. Sanjusangendo, the longest wooden structure in Japan at 120 meters, houses 1001 statues of Kannon, the Buddhist deity of compassion.
The next destination is Kiyomizu-dera Temple, an esteemed UNESCO World Heritage Site. This temple was constructed in honor of Kannon and is believed to fulfill various wishes, particularly those of women seeking a safe childbirth. One of its notable features is the Kiyomizu Butai, a wooden platform stage that was built entirely without nails and was previously a popular spot for making wishes.
In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to visit Kinkakuji Temple. With its millions of annual visitors, it is easy to see why this stunning temple in the northern hills of Kyoto is one of Japan's most popular attractions. Unlike traditional Buddhist temples, Kinkakuji is adorned with real gold leaf, making it a picturesque sight regardless of the season or weather. Additionally, you will be captivated by the fascinating story of the warlord who commissioned the construction of this magnificent pavilion.
Visit Kitano-Tenmangu, an impressive shrine dedicated to scholarship and built to pacify the spirit of an angry ghost. Don't forget to purchase a lucky pencil, a tradition among local students preparing for their college entrance exams. Take in the sights of the surrounding entertainment district, which was reconstructed after a fire in 1444. The remaining timber was used to create seven tea houses, marking the birth of the first "flower town" or district in Kyoto. Kamishichiken is just as charming as its more popular counterpart, Gion, but with fewer crowds and plenty of great photo opportunities.

Head to the Arashiyama district in the western outskirts of Kyoto, a pleasant area that has been popular since the Heian period. During this time, nobles would come to relax in their natural settings. One of the highlights of Arashiyama is the famous bamboo groves, which are especially beautiful when a light wind causes the bamboo stalks to sway gently. The bamboo in this area has been used for centuries to create a variety of products, including baskets, cups, boxes, and mats.
Nonomiya Shrine is a Shinto shrine where unmarried imperial princesses would stay for a year or more in ancient times to purify themselves. Okochi Mountain Villa, on the other hand, used to be the villa of the famous samurai film star Okochi Denjiro (1896-1962). It features numerous stunning gardens and buildings, such as living quarters, tea houses, and a Zen meditation hall. While visiting, you can indulge in matcha tea and a light snack.
Tenryuji, one of Kyoto's five great Zen temples, is the largest and most impressive temple in Arashiyama. It was established in 1339 during the Muromachi Period and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kyoto. Along with its temple structures, Tenryuji also boasts beautiful gardens with scenic walking paths.

Osaka, the historical commercial capital of Japan, is the third largest metropolis in the country and has been the economic powerhouse of the Kansai region for centuries. Its prominence began in the 16th century when a powerful warlord constructed the country's most magnificent castle. To support the development of his castle town, the ruler attracted merchants from other parts of Japan to settle in Osaka, transforming it into an important distribution center. As the merchant class thrived, the town grew and traditional arts like kabuki and bunraku flourished. Today, Osaka remains a hub for international business, with its commercial legacy still evident. The city is also renowned for its local cuisine, large aquarium, underground shopping arcade, and the popular Universal Studios amusement park.
Today, you will be accompanied by a private driver who will take you to your hotel in Osaka by car.
Your guide will meet you at your hotel for a half-day tour of Osaka.
Begin your day by exploring the impressive Osaka Castle, which holds great significance in Japan's history. Osaka, one of Japan's liveliest cities, is renowned for its vibrant people and delicious food. Your guide will introduce you to the casual cuisine of Osaka and the cultural concept of 'kuidaore' – indulging in food until bankruptcy!
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Osaka and take you to either Shinsekai or Dotonbori, depending on which is closer to your hotel. Both areas are famous for their pedestrian-only streets lined with restaurants and are known as foodie paradises. This is where people from the Kansai region come to celebrate! Colorful takoyaki stands and ramen bars can be found alongside upscale eateries serving the finest wagyu beef. Everywhere you look, people of all ages are out enjoying the culinary pleasures of Japan's soul food kitchen.
During the tour, you will have the opportunity to visit shops and try a range of local foods, including the famous takoyaki (octopus balls), okonomiyaki (a savory pancake), and kushikatsu (skewered meats and vegetables). The cost of these food items, as well as one drink per person, is included. If you prefer, your guide can also take you to other establishments such as ramen stands and izakaya bars.
