Slovenia is beautiful. There’s no better way to describe it. It’s the only country in Europe that combines the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Pannonian Plain and the Karst. The changing landscape is constantly surprising, time and again. You can have one eye on the sea, then look in the other direction and be surrounded by high mountains.

Heading up into the forests, you can see the green plains below you. From upland meadows, your view stretches into river gorges. This proximity of opposites and contrasts is a hallmark of the country. This trip to the capital Ljubljana allows you to sample the local wines as well as the option to visit beautiful Lake Bled and the stunning scenery that surrounds.

In detail

Day 1: Ljubljana

Arrive into Ljubljana where you’ll be met by your driver who will take you to your hotel.

Ljubljana’s unique character is mainly due to the felicitous mixture of two very different but complementary features: on one hand, the city is famed for its historical heritage and traditions; on the other, it is a relatively young city with a modern lifestyle (the average age of its residents is only slightly above 30).

In the afternoon you’ll experience Slovenian wine tasting. Slovenia has three major wine regions. Ljubljana is a great place to experience a private wine tasting experience at local boutique winemaker. We have chosen some of Slovenia’s best wine producers and the choice of red, white or sparkling wine is yours. Wine tastings will take place in a wine cellar or tasting room and are led by a professional sommelier, winemaker or both. The winemaker will share his story of how he makes wine and the history of the vineyard. Cheers – Na zdravje!

Day 1: Ljubljana

Day 2: Ljubljana

After breakfast the day is yours to explore.

Explore Ljubljana Old Town during which you will see Ljubljana’s main sights. Your guide will explain to you the history of the city and show you some of the nicest corners of Slovenia’s capital.

Visit Ljubljana Castle which you’ll get to by funicular. It’s undoubtedly Ljubljana’s most famous landmark and has undergone numerous changes over its rich and dynamic history. In the company of a guide, you will visit the Outlook Tower and the castle’s prison and can view the exhibition on Slovenian History.

No trip to Ljubljana is complete without taking a water-based tour and the handmade wooden boat operated by the young team at Laker Craft is easily the most attractive of all the crafts gliding on the waters of the Ljubljanica. A ride lasts just under an hour and offers views of most of the old town’s major sights from a unique vantage point.

We suggest dinner at the lovely As Aperitivo restaurant in the heart of Ljubljana.

The restaurant is perhaps the trendiest place in town, the place to be and the place to be seen. Since the end of the nineties, it has been a pillar of Ljubljana’s culinary scene. Its unique dishes and outstanding wine list continually remind guests that some things in life are there to be truly relished. You’ll enjoy your meal at the a-la-carte restaurant or on the roof terrace.

Day 2: Ljubljana

Day 3: Lake Bled

The postcard-perfect Lake Bled, surrounded by the Alps, is Slovenia’s most popular attraction. You will join your guide for a visit to the castle that is located above the lake. The oldest and one of the most visited castles – you will have a guided tour of the medieval castle.

Bled Castle offers the finest view of the Bled island, the town of Bled and of the wider countryside of the Gorenjska region. Experience the picturesque architecture of the castle and the museum collection, representing the historical development of Bled, its culture and its population.

Next you will visit island of lake Bled. You will board a “pletna” boat and cross to the island with a church, wish bell and view tower.

After your visit, return to Bled for lunch and try the famous local Kremsnita cream cake.

Day 3: Lake Bled

Day 4: Postojna Cave

This morning, you will travel to the Karst region of Slovenia which is renowned for its caves. You will visit one of the most well known, Postojna Cave.

For 140 years, the Postojna Cave, is the only cave in the world to offer a unique and adventurous ride on board a special train, which will take you into the cave, under spectacular underground arches, which are embellished with chandelier look-alike stalactites, through a beautiful subterranean world full of playful limestone sculptures.

Continue your journey south towards the Adriatic Sea to the coastal town of Piran. Formerly under Venetian rule, Piran old town has retained much of its medieval character, including Venetian inspired architecture and beautiful small churches.
