French Polynesia and the Maldives set the benchmark for beach travel at its most extraordinary. The lagoons, the overwater villas, the water clarity. For those who have already made those trips, the Seychelles and Mauritius offer the Indian Ocean at a quieter register.
Mykonos remains the default for gay beach travel in Europe, and it earns that status every summer. For those who want Greece without the crowds, Syros and Naxos deliver equally beautiful coastline with considerably more breathing room. Barcelona is as much a beach city as it is a cultural one, and the short drive down to Sitges, home to one of Europe’s most celebrated gay beaches, makes it a natural twin destination.
Cape Town deserves more attention than it typically gets in this conversation. The beaches are world-class, the city is one of the most LGBTQ+-friendly on the African continent, and the surrounding landscape makes it unlike anywhere else on this list.
