In Colombia, same-sex relationships are legal, same-sex marriage is legal and workplace protections cover sexual orientation and gender identity. Equaldex gives Colombia an Equality Index of 71 out of 100.

Colombia has some of the strongest LGBTQ+ protections in Latin America. Same-sex couples have been able to marry since 2016 and can adopt, and the law protects people from discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Bogotá’s Chapinero district is the center of the country’s gay scene, and Medellín and Cartagena have welcoming scenes of their own. Cartagena’s walled old town and the islands offshore are popular with same-sex honeymooners.
Attitudes are more traditional in rural areas and smaller towns, and public affection can attract attention there. In the cities and at the hotels we use, same-sex couples are welcomed, and we choose guides and properties with that in mind.

Bogota is a fascinating city to explore – certainly one of the most exciting cities in Latin America. Located in the Andes, it’s quite a way above sea level. Simon Bolívar led Bogota to independece from Spain in 1819. In the past, Bogota’s remote location cut it off from the world, slowing its growth. In a globalized world, Bogota is very much a city on the rise. It also has a huge gay scene to explore. The food scene is also excellent. Some people would argue that the world’s finest coffee can be found in Colombia.
One, two, cha cha cha… Medellin is well worth visiting. Located on the Caribbean side of the country, its most famous son Maluma brought Colombian popular music to a much wider audience.

What Everyone Does In Colombia
The capital city of Bogota is home to over 7 million people. Get lost in this bustling metropolis, and pay a visit to The Museum Of Gold. This museum contains 55,000 pieces of gold, along with artefacts from the pre-conquest era. You’ll also want to visit the home of Simon Bolivar, the revolutionary leader who liberated much of Latin America from the Spanish empire.
