In the Galapagos, same-sex relationships are legal, same-sex marriage is legal and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people is prohibited. Equaldex gives the Galapagos an Equality Index of 64 out of 100.

The Galápagos are relaxed and welcoming for same-sex couples, and the experience is shaped mostly by your boat or lodge. The islands are part of Ecuador, where same-sex marriage has been legal since 2019 and the constitution protects people from discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Most visitors explore on a small expedition yacht or from a lodge on Santa Cruz or Isabela, with a naturalist guide and a small international group. Crews and guides are used to couples of every kind, and we choose boats and cabin types where same-sex couples are welcomed as couples. For the islands to yourselves, a private yacht charter is the ultimate option.
The small island towns are friendly but traditional, so public affection is best kept low-key ashore. Combine the islands with Quito and the Andes for a fuller picture of Ecuador.

To reach the Galapagos Islands, travelers must first fly to Quito, Ecuador, which serves as the main gateway to the archipelago. Quito is well-connected to a variety of international airports, with direct flights available from cities such as Madrid, Miami, and New York. Many major airlines, including American Airlines, Avianca, and Iberia, offer flights to Quito, making it easily accessible from both Europe and the United States.
Once in Quito, you’ll catch a domestic flight to the Galapagos Islands, typically landing in either Baltra or San Cristóbal airports, the two main entry points to the islands. These domestic flights are operated by Ecuadorian airlines like TAME or Avianca and offer a scenic and straightforward journey to the islands. The short flight from Quito to the Galapagos takes about 2 to 2.5 hours, making it a seamless connection for travelers eager to explore the unique wildlife and pristine landscapes of this UNESCO World Heritage destination.
