Luxury Travel Expert"Morocco is a fantastic destination for those who love authentic travel experiences. Head to the cities for hustle and bustle, or escape to the desert for stargazing and camel rides."
Contact usAwaken your senses and step into a world of colour, spice and culture. Morocco offers a truly unique experience and its wide diversity is why people love it. From the vast deserts, to the High Atlas mountains, to the buzzing atmosphere in Marrakech, there is so much to do and see.
Head to Casablanca and get a feel for the more modern Morocco. Fez, on the other hand, is known for its historical and cultural lineage which grabs its visitors at first sight. It is the world’s largest car-free urban area, which makes exploring it rather pleasant and peaceful.
Be tempted by the food scene in port cities like Tangier, where fresh seafood and tapas-style mezze shine. Cookery classes give a taste of Moroccan culinary traditions as you whip up tagines and flavorful salads. Then toast the setting sun over cocktails in elegant hotels and beach clubs. Savoring Morocco’s amazing cuisine is an integral part of luxury travel here.
Morocco is an Islamic country and homosexuality is still technically illegal. That being said, many gay travelers went to Morocco in the post-war era to live more openly. Morocco was less homophobic than the UK or America in those days, showing how things can and do change. Public displays of affection are not advised for gay or straight couples in Morocco. You’ll find Morocco to be a surprisingly open place though.
Unfortunately, Morocco’s legal framework criminalizes same-sex sexual activity, with penalties ranging from imprisonment to fines. Under the Moroccan Penal Code, same-sex relations between men are specifically prohibited, and similar laws apply to same-sex sexual activity between women. These laws are rooted in the country’s conservative interpretation of Islamic principles, which influence both societal attitudes and legal practices. Convictions under these laws can lead to sentences of up to three years in prison, and authorities have occasionally carried out arrests or crackdowns on LGBTQ+ individuals, contributing to an atmosphere of fear and repression.
LGBTQ+ individuals in Morocco are often advised to practice discretion, avoiding public displays of affection or openly identifying as queer in order to protect themselves from potential legal repercussions or harassment. While major cities like Marrakech and Casablanca are becoming slightly more cosmopolitan and tolerant, LGBTQ+ rights in Morocco are still severely limited, and public attitudes toward homosexuality remain largely conservative.
Moroccan society has traditionally viewed LGBTQ+ issues as taboo, and despite some gradual shifts in attitudes, the country has not yet seen significant legal or cultural changes that would provide broader protections for LGBTQ+ individuals. There is no recognition of same-sex relationships, and Morocco does not have any legal protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Activism remains underground, as LGBTQ+ advocacy is often viewed with hostility by authorities.
Despite this challenging environment, some luxury hotels and resorts in Morocco are making efforts to be inclusive and welcoming to gay travelers. These businesses typically emphasize discretion and strive to offer safe spaces for LGBTQ+ guests, though travelers are still advised to remain cautious when navigating public spaces. At Out Of Office, we ensure that we work exclusively with resorts and hotels that are committed to inclusivity and respect for all guests, providing a safer and more comfortable experience for LGBTQ+ travelers in Morocco. However, it’s essential to understand and respect local customs and laws while traveling in the country.
Though at first you may be a little apprehensive but if you can get over the rickety mount and dismount, then you must take a camel ride. There are plenty of places you can do this, but if you want a true authentic experience then head to the Moroccan Sahara desert.
If you are a fan of geography then head to the Todra Gorge which can be found in the High Atlas Mountains. This stunning gorge has been carved out by the Todra and Dades Rivers and stretches 600m. In some parts, the gorge is only 33 feet wide but more than 500 feet deep.
The Argania tree may not be the prettiest tree to look at with its thorny branches and untamed leaves, but these trees still seem to attract a select group of admirers. Moroccan goats love to hang out in the trees and can climb right to the very top. Quite an unusual sight! These tree goats can be found in Tamari.
