Mauritius

Crystal blue lagoons, reefs and beaches lined by gently swaying palm trees create a paradise on earth on the gorgeous volcanic island of Mauritius. Once home to the now-extinct Dodo, it’s an idyllic spot for those who love nature, with some of the world’s rarest plants and animals hiding away in the lush rainforests and waterfalls that define this unbelievably beautiful Indian Ocean Island.

Famous for its pristine beaches, exotic wildlife, and year-round sunshine, Mauritius is the perfect destination for an ultra-luxurious holiday. From sprawling beachfront resorts to exclusive villas with private pools, there is a myriad of choices for discerning travellers.

Pamper yourself with five-star dining, personal butlers, and a plethora of activities, including golf, rejuvenating spa treatments, and thrilling water sports. Holidays in Mauritius transcend ordinary travel – this destination is a realm of boundless luxury.

Mark Twain once penned, “Mauritius was made first, and then heaven, heaven being copied after Mauritius.” This sentiment still rings true, as Mauritius indeed boasts renowned sapphire waters, pristine and powder-white beaches, and luxurious resorts. Yet, this island paradise offers much more than idyllic shorelines – it’s a destination that treasures exploration in every form.

What makes Mauritius such a paradise for anyone with a passion for nature is its countless sights of unique environmental significance. These include the breathtaking Chamarel Waterfall, vibrant coral reefs and numerous hiking trails, nature reserves and marine parks, each offering visitors a wealth of unparalleled outdoor experiences.

You can hike through gorgeous scenery, swim with dolphins and take boat trips to observe whales and other sea creatures. Hike up Le Morne Brabant for incredible views of your stunning surroundings. Then spend long and lazy evenings sipping cocktails with a sea view, or head down to the waves for a paddle at sunset. There’s something for everyone in this island paradise.

Travel Information

If you are looking for the perfect destination to relax and unwind, whilst being surrounded by beautiful beaches, gorgeous green hills and surging waterfalls, then a holiday to Mauritius is most certainly for you. We work with some incredible resorts, all of which offer a uniquely luxurious experience. If you have a modern taste, then we would suggest staying at the LUX Belle Mare, or if you are looking for a more traditional experience, then our suggestion would be the Angsana Balaclava. At Out Of Office, our tailor-made itineraries are a great place to start, but everything we offer can be completely customised to suit your specific travel desires. Mauritius really is a once-in-a-lifetime destination.

Opt for an all-inclusive resort and escape from the responsibility and stress of daily life. Many of Mauritius’ top resorts have world-class spa and wellness facilities – meaning you can leave the island feeling far fresher than when you arrived. For those who are looking to explore outside of their sprawling resorts, then there are several opportunities for tropical adventure. PADI diving centres which offer scuba diving lessons and tours offer the chance to immerse yourself in some wonderful coral reefs and sub-aquatic environments.

Same-sex sexual activity was legalized in Mauritius in 2023, and discrimination is largely banned in regard to the LGBTQ+ community – making Mauritius one of the few African countries to offer anti-discrimination protections to LGBTQ+ people. The country is one of 96 to have signed the “Joint Statement on Ending Acts of Violence Related Human Rights Violations Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity” at the United Nations, condemning violence and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people.

Things to do in Mauritius

Diving and snorkeling

For those looking for a chance to get up close and personal with amazing marine life, Mauritius offers an array of options for diving and snorkeling. The Blue Bay Marine Park is one of the most popular areas for divers, where you can take in the sights of sensational turtles, stingrays, and exotic colored fish. Other favored sites to explore include Trou aux Biches and Flic en Flac. Even if you are not a certified diver, there are plenty of spots ideal for snorkeling.

The Chamarel Seven Colored Earth

The Chamarel Seven Colored Earth is a picturesque spectacle composed of sand dunes with hues ranging from vivid purples and blues to deep reds and browns. Spanning almost 10 hectares, the site was formed by volcanic activity and subsequent mineral deposits. A range of private and guided group tours are available for travellers interested in learning more about this unique geological spot.

Le Morne Brabant

Le Morne Brabant is a historically significant mountain located on the southwestern tip of Mauritius. Regarded as a symbol of freedom and resistance thanks to its history of offering refuge to those escaping slavery, this declared UNESCO World Heritage Site is now a popular hiking destination, offering stunning views from its summit. Although challenging, the climb to the top can be done with an experienced guide.
