Mauritius is one of the pearls of the Indian Ocean. Unlike its Indian Ocean neighbor the Maldives, Mauritius is comprised of one single island. Mauritius is considered to be a great beach destination, especially on the north side of the island where you’ll find the longest stretch of beaches. Our favorite beach in Mauritius is Belle Mare Plage. Mauritius is also famed as the home of the dodo, which took its final footsteps on this very island.
Mark Twain said that heaven was probably based on Mauritius. When the Dutch arrived they thought they’d stumbled upon the Garden of Eden. Mauritius is still a tropical paradise, but it has plenty of large resorts to choose from. It’s also ideal for travels later in the year – September to December is a perfect time to go. LUX Belle Mare
LUX Belle Mare is one of the most stylish luxury hotels in Mauritius. It also boasts the biggest swimming pool on the island. The design combines Kelly Hoppen interiors with a classic Mauritian twist. The resort is dressed in soothing whites and vibrant brights and each of the thatch-roofed suites and villas is blessed with sea views. It’s tucked away in lush tropical gardens near the quaint, sleepy village of Belle Mare. And what a view it is: an unspoiled sweep of powder-soft sands, crystalline waters in sparkling shades of beryl blue, coconut palms swaying gently in the breeze – undoubtedly one of the best beaches in Mauritius.
Westin Turtle Bay
Westin Turtle Bay is located in Balaclava on the beachfront, close to Turtle Bay Marine Park – a former turtle breeding ground. The hotel is 13 km from the capital city Port Louis and 10 km from the Mauritius National Botanical Garden.
This is a large resort with all the amenities you’ll need. Take a trip to the Turtle Garden, unwind on a sunbed on the long stretch of beach and try a wide range of treatments at the spa. You can also take guided trips to Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens and Trou aux Biches beach. There are 190 spacious rooms to choose from. You can also try the five restaurants. All in all, this is a very good choice for a luxury trip to Mauritius.
The Oberoi
Located on the scenic Turtle Bay Marine Park, this is one of the best hotels for a romantic trip to Mauritius. A Feng Shui waterfall greets you at the entrance. The hotel covers 20 acres of tropical gardens. You can expect service of the highest standard and romantic highlights, like candlelit baths waiting for you.
