At a glance
Step past walls of Inca stones and into a cloistered courtyard with an ancient fountain at its heart. Palacio Nazarenas is a former palace and convent in the heart of Cusco, transformed into one of the most daringly modern luxury hotels in South America without surrendering an inch of its historic soul. Within these timeless walls, contemporary Cusco comes to life: a fabulous spa, the city’s first outdoor pool, and stylish restaurants serving cutting-edge local cuisine.
Lovingly restored 16th-century architecture gives each suite a distinctly colonial feel. This intimate retreat has just 55 suites, each enriched with oxygen, complete with 24-hour butler service and its own private bar where guests can create drinks accented with fresh ingredients grown at and around the hotel.
Some suites feature original Inca stonework; others boast balconies with hypnotic views of Cusco’s distant, mist-wrapped mountains. The result is a property that feels entirely unlike anywhere else in the city, or indeed in Peru.
Just 25 minutes from Cusco Airport, Palacio Nazarenas is the natural urban base for exploring Cusco before continuing to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu beyond. Pair a stay here with time at Rio Sagrado in the Sacred Valley for an itinerary that moves from the colonial energy of the city to the river-laced calm of the valley.
