In detail

Best for Barcelona: Mandarin Oriental

Mandarin Oriental Barcelona is one of the best luxury hotels in town. It’s located right by Old Town on Passeig de Gràcia, one of Barcelona’s most exclusive shopping areas. This is a classic 5-star hotel. It’s opulent without being overbearing. As it’s a Mandarin hotel, you know you’ll be getting the highest level of service.

The rooms are very well appointed and the suites offer sweeping views of Barcelona. The hotel’s main bar is called the Bankers’ Bar, giving you an idea of the kind of demographic they are accustomed to serving.

Las Ramblas is short walk away so you’re right in the heart of the action.

Best for Sitges: Calipolis

Sitges is Spain’s ever popular coastal town on the Costa Brava. A short train ride from Barcelona, it’s a gay mecca on a par with Mykonos or Palm Springs. In peak season Sitges is a majority LGBT+ town. Straight people will be very much in a minority. The centre of Sitges is packed with gay bars.

Overlooking the gay beach you’ll find Hotel Calipolis. We’ve chosen it as it’s so central. This is a great place to stay if you’d like to discover Sitges’ unparalleled gay nightlife. It’s even better if you do a twin-centre itinerary, combing Sitges with a stay in Barcelona.

Best for Madrid: Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid

Mandarin Oriental took over The Ritz, Madrid’s most iconic hotel. The original hotel was created by César Ritz himself on the orders of Alfonso XIII. It was a Belle Epoch masterpiece but it had fallen into decline in recent years. That decline was dramatically reversed and it’s once again a hotel fit for a king – even a very picky king.

Past guests include Mata Hari and the Dukes of Windsor. All of the rooms are slightly unique. Some come with views of the square, others with antique furnishings and art. You’ll also find one of the best hotels in Madrid at the Dukes of Mandarin Oriental Ritz.

Best for Ibiza: Bless Hotel

Bless Hotel is one of the most stylish hotels in Spain. It captures the understated elegance of the hotels you see on the Greek islands. Expect whitewashed walls and clean lines. This hotel has been designed in the age of Instagram and it shows. You’d struggle to take a bad photo here. It’s located in northern Ibiza right by Santa Eulalia.

There are 151 rooms and suites to choose from, all of which are of an exceptional standard. Whether you’re looking to relax in Ibiza or avail yourself of its nightlife charms, this hotel ticks all the right boxes.

The Axel hotel brand is very well established. They offer a range of “straight-friendly” hotels worldwide, from Barcelona to Miami. Axel Barcelona is a fabulous hotel right in the heart of the city. It’s chic, modern and loads of fun. This is a great choice if you’re looking to explore Spain’s excellent gay scene.
