A single grand tour through four of Spain’s defining cities, each with its own distinct claim on the country’s identity.
Discover Spain on this eight-day journey through Madrid, Seville, Valencia, and Barcelona. The itinerary brings culture, hands-on experiences and comfortable stays, offering a well-rounded introduction to some of the country’s most interesting cities, each with its own distinct place in Spain’s LGBTQ+ history.
Begin in Madrid, where you take part in a flamenco masterclass at one of the city’s oldest tablaos, learning the basics from experienced performers before watching a live show that brings the music and movement to life. Chueca, a short walk from the historic centre, has been the country’s most established LGBTQ+ district since the years following Spain’s transition to democracy and is worth an evening of its own.
Continue to Seville, a city known for its historic centre and grand landmarks. Visit Plaza de España and enjoy an evening flamenco performance set in a restored nineteenth-century palace in the Macarena neighbourhood, with Alameda de Hércules, a short walk from the historic centre, having served a similar role for Seville’s own LGBTQ+ community.
In Valencia, explore the city by bike, following easy routes through the Turia Gardens and past key sights, including the City of Arts and Sciences, a relaxed way to see both the historic and modern sides of the city. Valencia is the exception on this route: it does not carry the same long-established LGBTQ+ district as the other three cities on this journey.
Finish in Barcelona, where the focus turns to the work of Antoni Gaudí. Visit the Sagrada Família, Park Güell, and other notable sites to understand how his distinctive style has shaped the city’s character, and spend an evening in the Eixample, sometimes called the Gaixample, which occupies the same position in Barcelona that Chueca and Alameda de Hércules hold in Madrid and Seville. Sitges, forty minutes away by train, is a natural extension for those with an extra day to spare for the beach.

Days 1-2: Madrid
Enjoy an authentic flamenco masterclass at the oldest flamenco tablao in Madrid. A flamenco dancer and a guitarist will show you how to master flamenco: the different songs and music, the dance, and the guitar. You will be taught a genuine flamenco masterclass before watching one of the best flamenco shows in town.
The following day, explore Madrid’s historic landmarks and vibrant neighborhoods on a guided tour, discovering the city’s rich history and architectural wonders.
Day 3: Seville
Take the train to Seville. Join a tour which takes you through the heart of the city. Visit the famous Plaza De España, drive through the illuminated main streets and enjoy a panoramic view of the city on the way to the tablao.
Then it is time for another stunning flamenco show, found in an old Sevillian palace from the nineteenth century in the middle of the Macarena neighbourhood.
Days 4-5: Valencia
Take a train to Valencia where you will embark on a bike tour of the city. Valencia is a totally flat city, with lots of green areas and a historical city centre which is easily navigated thanks to the cycle paths and the slow-traffic streets. The Valencia Bike Tour is a different, original and environmentally friendly way to explore, starting with the Turia Gardens, the former riverbed that once wound its way through the city.
Later on, pedal down the streets, squares and past the main monuments of the old city until you reach Valencia’s newest landmark, the City of Arts and Sciences museum.
Days 6-8: Barcelona
Take the train to Barcelona. The city is known as the capital of Modernisme and the place where the famous architect Antoni Gaudí worked and lived. Explore the city on an art and architecture tour that takes you to the Sagrada Família, Gaudí’s unfinished masterpiece and Barcelona’s most famous landmark. Your guide will lead a walking tour of the exterior of the Sagrada Família to admire its richly and symbolically decorated facades.
Then, discover Gaudí’s Park Güell, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tour continues to Passeig de Gràcia to see Gaudí’s famous apartment buildings, Casa Batlló and Casa Milà among them, along with other modernist buildings.
