When you’ve checked into your hotel, you’ll set out on a panoramic tour of the city by car and on foot.
Get your bearings of this beautiful city, full of architectural delights and contemporary and classic boutique European shops.
You’ll also want to have your first taste of tapas tonight in one of Madrid’s renowned Spanish restaurants.
This morning you’ll be driven to Ávila just outside of Madrid. You’ll be able to explore its medieval streets and then head to Segovia, where you’ll see a Roman aqueduct that’s still in excellent condition.
Heading back out of Madrid, you’ll visit El Escorial, the burial place of many of Spain’s kings and queens. You’ll also visit the Valle de los Caídos and see a monument to Spain’s darkest chapter, the Spanish Civil War.
Return to Madrid in the afternoon.
This morning you’ll take a high-speed train to Barcelona. When you’ve checked into your hotel you’ll join a guided tour of Gaudi’s many masterpieces that have come to define Barcelona’s aesthetic.
Today you’re free to explore the city at your own pace. Take a stroll down the bustling Las Ramblas and relax on the city’s beaches. In the evening you could explore Barcelona’s nightlife around Eixample.
Take a short trip out of the city to the Penedès region. This is the region that produces cava, everyone’s favourite sparkling wine. Here you’ll meet a cava producer and take a cava tour and tasting sessions. After lunch, you’ll visit the Montserrat monastery and then return to Barcelona.
Evening at leisure.
Today you’ll say farewell to Barcelona and head home.
You may wish to extend your stay with a beautiful trip to the quaint beach town of Sitges, known for being extremely gay-friendly. Just a short train ride away, you’ll find cobbled streets and a great beach too.
