Spanish cuisine is legendary. It’s also very varied. You’ll explore the vibrant foodie scenes of Barcelona and Madrid, as well as visiting wineries and tasting the best Rijoa and cava. You’ll taste the diverse regional cuisines of Spain – from Andalusia to the Basque country – and also attend cooking classes.

In detail

Day 1: Barcelona

Check into your hotel in central Barcelona and explore the city at your own pace.

Day 1: Barcelona

Day 2: Barcelona

Today you’ll join a cooking class and learn how to make that most Spanish of dishes, paella. You’ll then dine on your creation. You may need to walk off all that food so take a stroll down Las Ramblas and pay a visit to Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia.

Day 2: Barcelona

Day 3: Barcelona

This morning you’ll travel to Penedès just outside of Barcelona. This is the region famous for producing cava. You’ll enjoy a tour of the vineyards, a wine tasting or two and lunch.

Return to Barcelona early evening.

Day 4: Madrid

Take a high-speed train to Madrid and check into your hotel. You’ll go for a panoramic tour of the city by car and on foot. Dinner at a top restaurant.

Today you’ll take a trip to Spain’s historic capital, Toledo – it’s just outside Madrid. You’ll meet a local guide who’ll give you a tour of Toledo’s medieval streets. On your way back to Madrid you’ll visit a winery in the countryside for a tour of the vineyards and tasting.

Day 6: Ezcaray

Today you’ll be heading to La Rioja. This is, of course, the famous region that produces Rioja. You’ll visit a winery and try some of the best local Riojas with lunch.

Day 7: Ezcaray

Today you’ll go for a spot of winery hopping around La Rioja. You’ll tour the vineyards, learn about the various vintages and indulge in a wine tasting lunch. Go full-on Eddie and Patsy, if you must.

Day 8: San Sebastián

Today you’ll transfer to San Sebastián in the Basque Country. You’ll discover Basque cuisine by sampling a selection of pintxos (kind of like tapas).

You’ll be dining in a gastronomic society. This’ll be quite an experience as they are usually only open to members. You’ll buy the ingredients and then prepare them at the society. After lunch you can unwind on the local beaches.

Day 9: San Sebastián

Day 10: Seville

On your way back from San Sebastián you’ll head west to Bilbao. Here you can explore its famous art scene, including the iconic Guggenheim. You’ll then take a flight south to Seville in Andalusia.

Day 11: Seville

This morning a tour guide will meet you and show you around the city. As Andalusia is the home of flamenco you’ll attend a flamenco performance in the evening, and then go on a tapas tour.

Day 12: Seville

Andalusia is famous for its ham, especially Iberico ham. You’ll visit a pig farm and meet some of the pigs. You’ll learn about how they are raised and then sample some of the divine Spanish ham.

Day 13: Seville

Today you’ll join a cooking class and learn how to make classic Andalusian cuisine with a professional chef. You’ll then enjoy your creations with some fine wine.

Day 13: Seville

Day 14: Departure

Your Spanish culinary adventure draws to a close. You’ll be transferred to the airport for your return flight.
