La Mamounia opened in 1923 within the ancient city walls of Marrakech, a five-minute walk from the Jemaa el-Fna, and has operated ever since as one of the defining grand hotels of Africa.
The property was redesigned by Jacques Garcia and reopened in 2009, combining original Moorish architecture, zellige tilework and 17 acres of gardens with contemporary technology and a 2,500 square metre spa.
It has 135 rooms, 71 suites and 3 private riads, four restaurants, four bars and two tea rooms.
Churchill stayed here. So did Hitchcock, the Rolling Stones and, more recently, the cast of Inventing Anna. The Koutoubia Mosque is visible from the gardens, and the medina is on the doorstep.

Accommodation
Rooms
The 135 rooms range from 30 to 45 square metres and are decorated with zellige tilework, hand-carved wooden furniture and richly textured Moroccan fabrics.
Each has views of the gardens, the medina or the Atlas Mountains, with marble bathrooms and smart controls throughout.
Suites and Exceptional Suites
The 71 suites, ranging from 55 to 212 square metres, add separate living areas and private balconies to the room formula.
Seven Signature Suites sit at the top of the range with custom furnishings, private terraces and bespoke amenities.
All suites have the same level of Moroccan craft detail as the rooms, scaled up for guests who want more space.
The Riads
The three Riads are the most private option at La Mamounia, each covering 700 square metres with three bedrooms, Moroccan salons, a private swimming pool, terraces and a dedicated butler.
They sit within the gardens and operate at a remove from the main hotel, with access to all facilities throughout the stay.

Le Marocain
The flagship restaurant, serving traditional Moroccan dishes in a room of zellige tilework and carved cedar woodwork.
L’Italien par Jean-Georges
Italian and Mediterranean dishes curated by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, with indoor and terrace seating.
L’Asiatique par Jean-Georges
Also by Vongerichten, with a five-act Kabuki tasting menu and a two-course Peking Duck among the highlights.
Le Pavillon de la Piscine
The pool restaurant for casual daytime dining and breakfast, with seating in the gardens.
The Bars
Le Churchill Bar has an Art Deco interior and a strong cocktail list. Bar Majorelle sits in the garden for aperitifs. Two tea rooms serve afternoon tea and Moroccan mint tea throughout the day.
Spa & Wellness
The spa at La Mamounia covers 2,500 square metres and is built around traditional hammam treatments alongside massages, body treatments and facials.
There is an indoor pool, a jacuzzi, a steam room and a fitness centre.
A hair and beauty salon operates alongside the spa. Day passes are available for non-residents, covering spa access, a treatment and lunch at Le Pavillon de la Piscine.
