Ireland has a legitimate claim to being the most welcoming country in the world for LGBTQ+ couples. In 2015 it became the first nation on earth to legalize same-sex marriage by popular vote, a distinction that says something meaningful about the culture rather than just the legislation.

The warmth is genuine, the best hotels understand what the occasion means, and you arrive somewhere that celebrates rather than simply tolerates.

The country itself makes a compelling honeymoon case. Dublin is a compact, walkable capital with a literary and cultural heritage that punches well above its size, a restaurant scene that has been transformed in the past decade, and an LGBTQ+ community that is visible, confident and deeply woven into the fabric of the city.

Drive west and the landscape shifts into something rawer and more elemental: the stone walls and Atlantic light of Connemara, the vertiginous drama of the Cliffs of Moher, and a quality of remoteness that is increasingly hard to find in western Europe.

Romance in Ireland isn’t found on tropical beaches, but in its extraordinary culture, its pubs, the emerald landscapes and the hospitality of its inhabitants.

Days 1 to 4: Dublin

The best hotels in Dublin sit in the Georgian neighborhoods south of the Liffey: The Merrion, built across four restored Georgian townhouses with one of the finest art collections of any hotel in Europe, and The Shelbourne on St Stephen’s Green, which has been at the center of Irish public life since 1824. Both handle same-sex honeymoons with the ease.

Three nights in Dublin is the sweet spot. Explore the streets of the Liberties and Portobello, the Chester Beatty Library, long lunches in the restaurants around Merrion Square, and the particular pleasure of an Irish pub when you find the right one.

The city’s LGBTQ+ scene is centered on the area around George’s Street, with bars, clubs and venues that have been here long enough to have real character.

Days 1 to 4: Dublin

Days 4 to 8: The West

A private transfer west on the morning of day four, and Ireland changes register entirely. The N4 and N5 carry you through the midlands before the landscape opens up into Connemara, where the light shifts and the Atlantic makes itself felt. This is where the honeymoon breathes.

Ashford Castle in County Mayo is the landmark property in the west, a 13th century castle on the shores of Lough Corrib with 83 rooms, a spa, and a level of grandeur that is difficult to find outside of Scotland.

For something more intimate, Ballynahinch Castle in Connemara sits on a 700-acre private estate on the Owenmore River, with fishing, walking and a kitchen built around the best of what the west produces. Both properties are experienced with same-sex couples and handle the occasion well.

Four nights gives the west time to work properly. Days are unstructured: walk the Connemara National Park, take a private boat on Lough Corrib, drive the Sky Road above Clifden, or make the journey south to the Cliffs of Moher and the limestone plateau of the Burren.

Days 4 to 8: The West

Days 8 to 9: Dublin

A private transfer back to Dublin on day eight. A final night in the city turns what could be a rushed departure into a proper ending. A last dinner, a slower morning, and a transfer to the airport without the anxiety of a long drive on the day you fly.

Days 8 to 9: Dublin

Why Book With Out Of Office

Ireland is a destination we know well, and the west coast in particular rewards having someone in your corner who understands where the exceptional properties are and how to secure them. Ashford Castle and Ballynahinch both book well in advance, and the best experiences, private estate tours, exclusive dining and curated local access, are not things you find on a booking site.

We have more than a decade of experience building luxury itineraries for LGBTQ+ couples across Ireland and the UK, and we know the properties that welcome same-sex couples with real warmth rather than policy compliance. Every itinerary starts with a conversation about what you want this trip to feel like.
