Getting to Ireland

Ireland is well served from the US, with Aer Lingus and United operating direct transatlantic services from New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and other major cities into Dublin. Flight times run around six and a half hours from the East Coast and ten from the West Coast. Shannon Airport in County Clare also receives direct US services and is a practical entry point for itineraries focused on the west of Ireland, putting Ashford Castle, the Cliffs of Moher and the Ring of Kerry within easy reach without transiting through Dublin.

From the UK, Dublin is under two hours from London by air, with frequent daily services from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and City Airport. The Irish Ferries and Stena Line crossings from Holyhead to Dublin and Fishguard to Rosslare are worth considering for travelers who want to bring a car, though flying and arranging a driver on arrival is the more practical option for most luxury itineraries.

Belfast is served by its own airports, George Best Belfast City and Belfast International, with direct UK connections. For itineraries combining Dublin and Belfast, the train between the two cities takes around two hours and is a comfortable and scenic option.
