Few places in Europe let you stand this close to the edge of the map, and this tour takes you the entire distance, from the refined harbor city of Tromsø to Kirkenes, a town that sits directly against the Russian border.
The first two days settle into Tromsø itself, known locally as the Paris of the North, with the Arctic Cathedral’s striking angular architecture, the Polar Museum’s record of the explorers and hunters who once worked this coastline, and an evening at the world’s northernmost brewery.
From there, a short flight carries you to Kirkenes, and the trip changes register entirely. A private excursion onto the ice puts you alongside divers hunting for king crab that can span six feet across, the day building toward a private tasting built entirely around the catch.
The Snow Hotel closes out the trip, an ice structure rebuilt fresh each winter, complete with carved sculptures, a berry-infused ice drink on arrival, and resident reindeer wandering the grounds after dark, all under some of the clearest Northern Lights viewing conditions in the country.

Day 1: Arrival in Tromsø
A private transfer from the airport carries you into the city, settling you into a hotel within easy reach of the harbor.
Tromsø sits at nearly seventy degrees north, ringed by mountains that stay snow-covered well into spring, and the light itself announces the latitude before anything else does, a deep winter blue at midday that never quite becomes full daylight.
The evening is left open for a first, unhurried walk along the waterfront, past the wooden buildings of the old town, with an early chance at the Northern Lights if the sky cooperates.
Day 2: Tromsø
A private guide leads a half-day tour of the city, beginning at the Arctic Cathedral, an angular, glass-fronted landmark completed in 1965 whose eleven jagged peaks are meant to echo the mountains and icebergs of the north.
From there, the tour continues to the Polar Museum, housed in a set of nineteenth-century harbor warehouses, where the equipment, journals, and photographs of Norway’s Arctic explorers and hunters lay out just how unforgiving this coastline once was to work.
The afternoon is left free, whether that means a second walk through the city center or simply resting up before the evening, which turns to Mack Brewery, the world’s northernmost, for a guided tour of how its beer and its Arctic mineral water are made, ending with a tasting in the brewery’s own pub.
Day 3: Tromsø to Kirkenes
A short flight carries you east to Kirkenes, Norway’s most remote mainland outpost, sitting directly against the Russian border in a landscape noticeably starker and flatter than the mountains around Tromsø.
Once there, a private excursion onto the ice puts you alongside your guide, watching divers submerge into the frozen water in pursuit of king crabs that can grow to six feet across, hauling their catch up through holes cut directly into the ice.
The outing ends in a private tasting built entirely around the day’s catch, the crab prepared simply enough to let its flavor carry the meal. In the evening, a private guide leads a Northern Lights hunt away from the town’s lights, one of the more reliable viewing spots anywhere in the country given how far north and how dark the surrounding wilderness runs.
Day 4: The Kirkenes Snow Hotel
A transfer to the Kirkenes Snow Hotel, an entirely new structure built from ice and snow each winter and dismantled each spring again, greets you with a berry-infused ice drink served in a glass carved from the same ice as the walls around you.
The afternoon is free to explore the hotel’s corridors, each room carved with its own theme by a different visiting artist, before dinner, a traditional three-course Norwegian meal built around locally sourced ingredients and served in the hotel’s own ice-walled dining room.
Afterward, the evening winds down among the hotel’s carved sculptures and its resident reindeer, grazing quietly just outside, with a second chance at the Northern Lights overhead before retreating to a bed layered with reindeer hides against the cold.
