Gay Australia Luxury Tours & Vacations 2026 & 2027

Proudly LGBTQ+ Experts and Welcoming to All Travelers

Australia is one of the great long-haul destinations. It has the cities, the coastline, the wine, the wildlife and the Outback, and it does all of them at a standard that very few countries can match. The flight is long, but the payoff is a country that rewards two or three weeks of your time.

Here at Out Of Office, we truly understand the world you live in, and the world you want to explore. Our attention to detail, exceptional service and deep understanding of both luxury travel and LGBTQ+ travel make us a fantastic choice for those looking for a travel experience where exclusivity meets inclusivity.

Celebrating 10 Years of Luxury LGBTQ+ Travel

Why is Australia a popular luxury travel destination?

? Don't forget that all of our itineraries are totally customized and so this is just an idea of what we can build for you.

Sydney is where most trips begin. The harbour, the beaches at Bondi and Coogee, the restaurants in Surry Hills and Darlinghurst, and a hotel scene built around five-star waterfront views.

Melbourne is the cultural counterweight, with laneways, galleries and one of the best restaurant scenes in the southern hemisphere. The Yarra Valley vineyards sit just outside the city, and the Great Ocean Road runs along the coast a few hours further on.

The Outback is the country at its most particular. Uluru at dawn from a tented camp, the Bungle Bungles in the Kimberley, the red cliffs of the far northwest. The lodges built into this landscape have raised the bar for what remote luxury looks like. Off the coast, the Whitsunday Islands open onto the Great Barrier Reef, and Tasmania offers cold-climate food, art and walking on the other side of the country.

Australia is also one of the most established gay-friendly destinations in the world. Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2017, the legal protections are strong, and Sydney’s Mardi Gras is one of the biggest dates in the global LGBTQ+ calendar.

Surry Hills and Darlinghurst in Sydney, Fitzroy and St Kilda in Melbourne, and Fortitude Valley in Brisbane are the neighborhoods that hold the scene.

What stays with travelers in the end isn’t usually the famous landmarks. It’s the scale of the country, the quality of the wine regions, a morning on the reef, a night under Outback skies, and the sense that you’ve seen somewhere different from anywhere else.

For most people Australia is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, which is exactly why it’s worth doing properly.

Travel Information for Australia

General Information

Australia is the sixth-largest country in the world and traveling between destinations requires careful planning. Most visitors arrive via major international airports in Sydney, Melbourne, or Brisbane, with domestic flights being the fastest and most efficient way to cover large distances.

If you’re exploring within a region, self-driving is a popular option, especially along famous routes like the Great Ocean Road or through the Red Centre. Train travel, such as The Ghan or the Indian Pacific, offers scenic but time-intensive journeys.

To see Australia’s key attractions, a minimum of two to three weeks is ideal, allowing time for major cities, coastal escapes, and an outback adventure. However, given its vastness, each state offers enough to fill an itinerary of its own, making Australia a destination that rewards multiple visits.

Australia LGBTQ+ Rights

Australia is one of the most welcoming countries in the world for LGBTQ+ travelers. Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2017, anti-discrimination laws are in place at federal and state level, and the cultural acceptance is unmistakable the moment you arrive in any major city.

Sydney is one of the great gay capitals of the world, with a year-round scene centred on Surry Hills, Darlinghurst and Newtown, and a Mardi Gras every February that draws travelers from every continent. Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast all have their own LGBTQ+ neighbourhoods and calendars, and same-sex couples are a familiar sight in restaurants, hotels and beach towns up and down the coast.

For honeymooners, weddings and milestone trips, Australia is one of the easiest destinations in the world to book. Suppliers expect same-sex couples, the country is set up for it, and our specialists will only book you into hotels and lodges we know will treat you properly.

How We Book the Trip

Australia is one of our most popular destinations, and one we know inside out. The regions don’t resemble each other, the best lodges are in remote places, and a properly sequenced itinerary makes a real difference.

Most of our work on an Australia trip is in the detail. What order you do the regions in, where you build in slower days, and which lodges are worth the premium.

We’ve been booking Australia for over a decade, and our specialists have spent that time on the ground. They’ve stayed in the lodges at Uluru, sailed the Whitsundays, driven the Great Ocean Road, and eaten their way through Melbourne and Sydney. When they recommend a property or a route, it’s because they’ve done it themselves.

That experience shows up in the small things that make a long-haul trip work. The right room category at Longitude 131. The flight timings that let you land in Sydney without losing a day. The lodge in the Kimberley that’s worth the extra hop. The Hunter Valley winery that takes private bookings on a Sunday. These are the details a generic itinerary misses.

Every trip we book is fully tailor-made. You’ll have one dedicated specialist from the first enquiry to the day you fly home, and they’ll know your trip inside out.

Sydney

Most trips begin here, and most should. The harbour is one of the great city settings in the world, and the view from the water lives up to every postcard, with the Opera House on one side and the Harbour Bridge framing the skyline.

Stay on the water at the Park Hyatt or the Four Seasons, eat in Surry Hills and Darlinghurst, and give yourself a morning at Bondi or Coogee before you fly anywhere else.

Uluru

The Red Centre is the part of Australia that feels least like anywhere else on earth. Uluru changes colour through the day and the silence at dawn is unlike anything you’ll have stood in before.

Stay at Longitude 131, where tented pavilions look directly out at the rock, and let the lodge organise the dinners under the stars and the guided walks at the base.

Beyond Uluru, the Northern Territory rewards a longer Outback itinerary, with Kakadu National Park’s sacred sites and Yellow River crocodile cruises among the standouts.

The Great Barrier Reef

The Reef is one of the natural wonders of the planet and the easiest of the three to fold into a wider trip. Fly into Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays, stay at qualia, and spend your days on the water, snorkelling, sailing, or flying out to Heart Reef by helicopter. It’s the slow, indulgent end to an Australia itinerary, and the one most people don’t want to leave.

From Melbourne, quite a lot of people choose to visit the Great Ocean Road. It’s the location of the 12 Apostles, rock formations which burst from the ocean. The road is almost 250km long and has some of Australia’s most breathtaking views and landscapes.

Luxury Travel in Australia

Australia has become one of the most rewarding luxury destinations in the world. Over the past decade the country has built a generation of lodges and hotels that compete with the best of Africa, the Maldives or the Caribbean, often in landscapes nowhere else can match.

Longitude 131 set the standard for remote tented luxury in the Outback, Saffire Freycinet does the same on Tasmania’s east coast, and qualia on Hamilton Island remains one of the best island resorts in the southern hemisphere.

Brisbane and the Gold Coast offer a different register, with Fortitude Valley’s dining scene and the high-end resorts and spa retreats along the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast beaches.

The cities deliver in a different register, with Sydney’s Park Hyatt, Four Seasons and Capella offering the kind of harbour-front address that puts the rest of the world’s city hotels to shame.

Beyond the hotels, the experiences are the part of Australia that often surprise people the most. Private helicopter flights over the Bungle Bungles. Indigenous-led cultural experiences at Uluru and in Arnhem Land. Private yacht charters through the Whitsundays. Cellar-door tastings with winemakers in the Barossa and the Hunter Valley.

From the US

Australia is one of the more straightforward long-haul destinations from the US. Qantas and United fly direct from Los Angeles to Sydney in around 15 hours, and Qantas also runs direct services from San Francisco, Dallas and New York.

For East Coast travelers, the New York and Dallas direct flights are the simplest option. A couple of nights in Los Angeles or San Francisco on the way out also works well if you’d rather break the journey.
Travelers heading on to the Reef or the Outback often build in a Hawaii stopover, which sits naturally on the route and turns the flight into two manageable halves.

We’ll handle the flights as part of your itinerary, including airline, cabin class and any stopover hotels.

From the UK

The fastest route from London is via Singapore or Hong Kong, with Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific both running well-timed connections onward to Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. Total journey time is around 22 to 24 hours.

Both cities make excellent stopovers if you’d rather break the trip in two halves. A couple of nights at Raffles or Capella Sentosa in Singapore, or The Peninsula in Hong Kong, turns the journey into part of the holiday.
Qantas also operates a non-stop service from London to Perth at around 17 hours, useful if you’re starting your trip in Western Australia.

We’ll handle the flights as part of your itinerary, including airline, cabin class and any stopover hotels.
