South Africa

If you fancy basking in luxury (who doesn’t?), you will love spending some time in South Africa.Franschhoek Valley is tucked between mountains, waiting for you to be reeled in by its expanse of lovingly tended vineyards. This wine region provides the best of nature and hospitality. You can also enjoy dinners with the clear sky and mountains as your backdrop. Take a break from walking through the greenery to explore it on horseback, or even in a helicopter. There are also plenty of hiking trails around the mountains to make sure you can see your surroundings from further afield, rather than just from your dining table.

Sonoma

Sonoma county is home to six percent of all California’s wine (so you’ll have plenty of tasting options)! With masses of wineries (over four hundred) and vineyards to choose from, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect wine. Rich, deep reds to refreshing whites are all on offer, a seemingly endless spectrum for your palate.

Wine’s not the only thing drawing you to Sonoma. The food is exquisite, from casual chic breakfast bars and cosy bakeries to rustic cafes and Michelin star restaurants…the list really does go on and on. You’ll find yourself taking extra stops during long wanderings around the vineyards just for an excuse to eat, despite your already full stomach.

Chile

The wine valleys outside of Santiagoform a long line down the ribbon of Chile. Some vineyards here are home to grapes that flourish in a cooler climate, where the morning fog is swept away by breezy afternoon sunshine. The wineries are both timelessly traditional and strikingly modern, so you can experience both, or just choose your favourite. Bicycle rides are an ideal way of seeing stretches of Chilean cacti and palm trees.

Sicily

The long summer humidity grows the best grapes for Sicilian wines. The wineries here are centuries old, bursting with family pride at their heart. A vast selection of wines will tempt you, including the famous Marsala. The ‘Sicilian Wine Renaissance’ of the 1990s saw quality being favoured over quantity, and ever since flavour and prestige are the most significant factor when it comes to wine.

Bordeaux

Possibly the most renowned of wine regions, Bordeaux, France, is famous for its red wines. French chateua are dotted all over the acres of vineyards, as big and beautiful reminders of the region’s heritage. Some have turrets that bring fairytale castles to mind, others look like overgrown homely cottages. A visit to the city of Bordeaux itself is a great way to complete the vision, as it prides itself on history and tradition.
