At a glance
W Maldives sits on Fesdu, a heart-shaped island in the North Ari Atoll ringed by its own reef. Reef sharks and turtles move through the shallows a few steps from the sand, and the overwater villas fan out across the lagoon from the island’s edge.
All 77 villas have their own pool, split between the water and the sand. Out over the lagoon, curved walls and fluid lines take their cue from the whale sharks that pass through these waters. On the beach, natural textures and earthy tones bring the island’s mangroves indoors.
The resort employs its own music curator, and DJs play by the main pool, where a stainless steel slide rises out of the water. At sunset, SIP serves Peruvian-inspired cocktails and Nikkei small plates over the lagoon. Dinner at FISH is set on an open deck above the reef.
Away from the pool, AWAY Spa sits out over the ocean in peace and quiet. Gaathafushi, the resort’s private castaway island, can be reserved for a barefoot dinner or a night under the stars.

Highlights
- A house reef with reef sharks and turtles, reached by steps straight from the overwater villa decks
- The two-story Oasis Beach Villa with Slide, boasts a slide from the upper deck into the private pool
- Gaathafushi, a private castaway island bookable for beach dinners and nights under the stars
Accommodation
Superior Overwater Villa
1,571 sq ft (146 sq m) · Up to 3 travelers
The Superior Overwater Villa stands above the lagoon on one of the resort’s overwater walkways. It is a one-bedroom, open-plan layout under high ceilings, with the king bed turned toward the sea. Its curved walls and fluid lines borrow from the patterns on a whale shark’s back.
Floor-to-ceiling windows open onto a private deck and pool, where an overwater hammock hangs above the reef. Steps lead from the deck down into the water.
Escape Beach Villa
2,023 sq ft (188 sq m) · Up to 3 travelers
Set on the island’s beachfront, the Escape Beach Villa brings the mangroves indoors through natural textures and custom furniture.
The terrace opens onto the sand beside a private plunge pool and a shaded pool cabana. The outdoor bathroom has a shower open to the night sky, and a private balcony adds a second place to sit out.
Premier Overwater Villa
1,571 sq ft (146 sq m) · Up to 3 travelers
The Premier Overwater Villa is also built over the lagoon, with the same footprint as the Superior.
It adds a separate sitting area alongside the king bedroom.
Out on the deck, a shaded pool cabana sits next to the private pool, and steps lead down to the house reef.
Supreme Overwater Villa
3,475 sq ft (323 sq m) · Up to 4 travelers
The first of the two-bedroom villas, standing over the water. A king bedroom and a second bedroom with two queen beds each have their own bathroom, and a separate living room gives everyone space to gather.
Outside, the deck holds a private pool with a shaded cabana. An overwater hammock hangs above the reef.
Oasis Beach Villa with Slide
4,047 sq ft (376 sq m) · Up to 4 travelers
A new villa type since the refit, this two-story villa sits directly on the beach. A slide runs from the upper deck straight into the private pool, and the upper deck also has a swing and space to lounge.
Downstairs, a foosball table and an outdoor dining area for barbecues sit just off the sand. One bedroom has a king bed, and the other has two queens.
Oasis Overwater Villa
5,294 sq ft (492 sq m) · Up to 4 travelers
The largest villa at the resort, standing over the lagoon and facing sunset. Two king bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, share separate living and dining rooms under floor-to-ceiling windows.
The deck holds a private pool with a shaded cabana built out over the water. An overwater hammock hangs nearby, and steps lead down to the house reef.
Escape Remix
The Escape Remix splits a single stay between the beach and the lagoon.
Guests on stays of four nights or more can divide their time between a Beach Villa and an Overwater Villa, pairing mornings on the sand with nights above the reef.
Further information
Dining

Five venues cover the full range from casual to signature. Fish is the overwater seafood restaurant and the resort’s culinary centerpiece. Fire handles jungle-meets-beach barbecue with grilled meat and seafood. Kitchen is an all-day bistro for breakfast and lighter meals. Wet is the poolside swim-up bar with wood-fired pizza, Asian dishes, and creative cocktails. SIP is the overwater lounge for sunset views with champagne, caviar, and oysters. Private and in-villa dining are available throughout.
Wellness

AWAY Spa sits above the water on overwater platforms open to the ocean breeze, with treatment rooms under tent-like Teflon roofs and floor-to-ceiling ocean views. Treatments draw on Maldivian and holistic wellness traditions, with signature options including the La Pina Colada Body Treatment. A fully equipped fitness center and sauna complete the offering.
Activities

The North Ari Atoll house reef wrapping Fesdu Island ranks among the best in the Maldives for snorkeling and diving, with hammerhead sharks, manta rays, and turtles accessible directly from the beach. The certified dive center operates excursions to Malhoss Thila and Maaya Thila, two of the atoll’s top dive sites. Kayaking, canoeing, big game fishing, and watersports round out the water-based program. On the island, the underground 15Below nightclub and a pirate-style private island are available for guests wanting something beyond the standard resort activity schedule.
The Maldives
The Maldives is made up of more than a thousand coral islands scattered across the Indian Ocean, each resort occupying its own private atoll. No shared beaches, no neighbouring properties, no traffic. The geography does something that no amount of hotel design can replicate: it removes you completely from everything else. The range across those islands is wider than most people expect.

Staying in an over-water bungalow is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I'd recommend to any traveller. It's amazing to swim in some of the world's most impressive coral reefs and the sunset's divine.
