At a glance
Finding an infinity pool in the middle of Tokyo is unusual. Finding one seemingly floating above the trees of Yoyogi Park is something else entirely. It’s the signature feature of TRUNK(HOTEL) YOYOGI PARK, a small, design-led hotel that offers a surprisingly peaceful retreat within walking distance of Shibuya.
There are just 25 rooms and suites, giving the hotel an intimate feel that’s quite different from Tokyo’s big luxury towers. Natural materials, contemporary Japanese design and plenty of greenery run throughout, while every room has its own balcony. The overall mood is cool but relaxed, which makes TRUNK particularly appealing to LGBTQ+ travellers looking for something more individual than the city’s international five-star names.
The real showstopper is TRUNK(POOL CLUB). Reserved for hotel guests, it pairs a heated infinity pool overlooking Yoyogi Park with a hot tub and spaces for drinks. You can swim outdoors even during cooler weather, with treetops immediately below and Tokyo’s skyline beyond.
The location is another reason we love it. The hotel sits in Tomigaya, a low-key neighbourhood known for independent cafés and restaurants, while Harajuku and Shibuya are within easy reach. Tokyo’s main gay district, Shinjuku Ni-chome, is also straightforward to reach when you’re ready to swap poolside serenity for a night out.
For a first or fifth trip to Tokyo, this is one of those hotels that can become part of the reason for visiting, rather than simply somewhere to sleep.

The 20 rooms are calm and contemporary, mixing wood, stone and natural textures with distinctly Japanese touches such as washi lighting.
Even the entry-level rooms come with a private balcony, a real luxury in Tokyo, while some look toward Yoyogi Park. Bathrooms feature spacious rainfall showers, and thoughtful local details continue through the minibars and amenities. Book higher up if views are important to you.
Suites
There are just five suites, making them some of the hotel’s most desirable spaces. The four Park View Suites come with separate living areas, large plant-filled balconies overlooking Yoyogi Park and deep soaking tubs.
For the ultimate stay, the Owner’s Suite sits at the top of the hotel with panoramic windows, a huge private terrace and a freestanding bathtub positioned to make the most of the view. There’s even a private staircase leading down to the pool.

Food & Drink
Pizzeria e Trattoria L’Ombelico is the hotel’s lively ground-floor restaurant, and it’s as popular with Tokyo locals as it is with guests. The focus is Italian, with a wood-fired oven turning out Neapolitan-style pizzas alongside pasta and other dishes. Look out for the signature Nojiri pizza, topped with clams, pecorino, parsley and lemon.
Up at TRUNK(POOL CLUB), things get considerably more glamorous. Oysters are served over ice beside the pool, accompanied by cocktails that bring Japanese ingredients into the mix. It’s hard to beat ordering a drink here as the light changes over Yoyogi Park.
Breakfast can be taken downstairs at L’Ombelico or up at the Pool Club. We’d pick the latter at least once. Starting the day overlooking the park from beside an infinity pool is a pretty fabulous way to do Tokyo.
