Gay Honeymoons in Sri Lanka
Planning A Gay Honeymoon In Sri Lanka
Choosing Sri Lanka for a gay honeymoon offers a blend of romance and cultural richness that is distinct from other destinations. The island’s natural beauty, from its pristine beaches to its mist-covered mountains, creates a naturally romantic setting. Unlike more commercialized destinations, Sri Lanka offers a sense of intimacy and privacy, ideal for couples seeking a serene and personal experience.
Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage adds a unique layer to the romantic experience. Exploring ancient temples, wandering through historic fortresses, and experiencing traditional Sri Lankan ceremonies can add a profound sense of connection and wonder to a honeymoon, a cultural immersion that few other destinations offer with such depth.
Sri Lanka does not yet have marriage equality or national anti-discrimination protections, and prosecutions under existing law are rare in practice. Our team plans every Sri Lanka honeymoon around private villas and boutique properties that we know well and that are comfortable hosting same-sex couples, so you can enjoy the island with the same privacy and ease as anywhere else on our list.

Things To Do In Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is a treasure trove of experiences for travelers. One of the top things to do is explore its stunning beaches, perfect for relaxation and water sports.
Wildlife enthusiasts must visit national parks like Yala for safaris, offering glimpses of leopards, elephants, and a variety of birds. Adventure seekers can enjoy hiking in the lush landscapes, particularly in areas like Ella – or take a train ride through Sri Lanka’s tea country.
The cultural heritage of Sri Lanka is rich, with ancient cities like Anuradhapura and the rock fortress of Sigiriya offering insights into the country’s past. For tea lovers, a visit to the tea plantations in the central highlands is a must.
Finally, experiencing the local cuisine, known for its spices and flavors, is essential for a complete Sri Lankan experience.

Best Time For A Gay Honeymoon In Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has two monsoon systems that affect opposite coasts, which makes timing a little more involved than in most destinations. The south and west coasts, along with the hill country, have their best weather from December through March, which is also the most popular season for a first Sri Lanka honeymoon combining beaches, tea country, and the Cultural Triangle.
The east coast, around Trincomalee and Pasikudah, runs on the opposite pattern, with its driest, calmest months from May through September, making it a better choice for couples traveling in the middle of the year. April and October, the brief inter-monsoon periods, can bring short, heavy downpours on either coast.
Tell us where your mind keeps going back to. We will do the rest.
Start planning your honeymoonStart planning→Best Places To Combine For A Sri Lanka Honeymoon
A beautifully curated Sri Lanka honeymoon combines the south coast beaches around Galle with the hill country around Ella and Nuwara Eliya for tea plantations and cooler air, and the Cultural Triangle around Sigiriya and Kandy for temples and ancient sites, connected by scenic train rides and private drivers.
Couples short on time often narrow this to just the south coast and hill country, which can be done comfortably in seven to eight days.
The Maldives is a short flight from Colombo, and combining the two is one of the most popular honeymoon pairings in the region: Sri Lanka for culture, tea country, and beaches, followed by a few days at a private Maldivian resort to close the trip.
The best trips begin with a conversation, not a booking form.

Is Sri Lanka safe for a gay honeymoon?
This is genuinely worth knowing before booking: Sri Lanka still has a colonial-era law criminalizing same-sex relations, and while prosecutions of tourists are essentially unheard of, the law affects the level of discretion we would recommend. Public displays of affection are best avoided island-wide, and we route couples through private villas and boutique properties that are comfortable and low-key rather than assuming the same openness you would find in, say, Bali or Puerto Vallarta.
How many days should we plan for a Sri Lanka honeymoon?
Ten to twelve days covers the south coast, hill country, and Cultural Triangle without rushing. A shorter seven- to eight-day trip works well focused on just the south coast and hill country.
Which region is the highlight for most couples?
The hill country around Ella is often the most memorable stretch, with cooler air, tea plantation views, and one of the most scenic train rides in Asia connecting it to the rest of the island.
No two trips we plan are the same. Yours will be no exception.
Every itinerary starts as a blank page and is shaped around your pace, your routing and the places you actually want to see.

Sri Lanka & the Maldives: Temples, Tea Country & Overwater Villas
Tailor-made HolidayOne of our most popular itineraries, we'd always recommend pairing Sri Lanka with the Maldives. Sri Lanka is a fascinating country to explore. In the space of two weeks you can stand inside ancient cave temples, watch wild elephants gather at dusk in Minneriya, take a train through tea country so green it barely looks real, and track leopards through Yala.

Sri Lanka in Five Days: Rock Fortress to Tea Hills to Coast
Tailor-made HolidayThe road from Sigiriya's rock fortress to the tea hills of Nuwara Eliya changes character almost by the hour, and this trip is built to let you feel every shift. This itinerary moves efficiently through the island's essentials: the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya, the sacred Temple of the Tooth in Kandy, the cool hills of Nuwara Eliya's tea country, and a final stretch of coastline at Mirissa, without the trip ever feeling rushed.

Secluded Tahiti & Rangiroa Tour
Tailor-made HolidayThis itinerary moves through three of French Polynesia's quieter islands, each reached only by boat or short inter-island flight, and each rarely appearing on a first-time visitor's itinerary. It suits travellers who have already done Bora Bora, or who would rather skip it, in favour of a slower, less-photographed route through French Polynesia. The journey begins on Tahiti, where volcanic peaks meet a coastline still shaped by the island's original Polynesian settlements.

Ultimate Luxury: French Polynesia
Tailor-made HolidayThis itinerary is built around the highest tier of accommodation French Polynesia has to offer, and around the freedom to move between islands without waiting on ferry schedules. Private planes and helicopters cover the inter-island transfers, which on an itinerary spanning several atolls saves real time otherwise lost to inter-island logistics. The islands themselves remain the point.

Gay Honeymoon in Bora Bora: Tahiti, Taha’a & More
Tailor-made HolidayBora Bora is the honeymoon most couples picture when they imagine French Polynesia: overwater bungalows suspended above a lagoon that shifts through every shade of blue, Mount Otemanu rising behind it, and a level of privacy that has made the island one of the most reliably LGBTQ+ welcoming honeymoon destinations anywhere in the South Pacific.

Mauritius: The Out Of Office Collection
Tailor-made HolidayMauritius is one of the LGBTQ+-friendly pearls of the Indian Ocean. Unlike its Indian Ocean neighbour the Maldives, Mauritius is comprised of a single island. Mauritius is considered a superb beach destination, especially on the north side of the island, where the longest stretch of beaches can be found. Our favourite beach in Mauritius is Belle Mare Plage, a peaceful and palm-lined shore with powder-white sands.

The Southern Maldives: Pullman Maamutaa & Park Hyatt Hadahaa
Tailor-made HolidayThe Southern Maldives operates on a different scale from the atolls clustered near Malé. Gaafu Alifu, where both properties sit, is roughly five to six hours away by speedboat, or a shorter domestic flight followed by a transfer, and that distance does the real work of keeping the atoll quiet. It filters out day-trippers, leaving reefs with far less traffic than the more accessible northern resorts.

The Best of Malé: Waldorf Astoria & Reethi Rah

Ultimate Luxury: The Maldives
Maldives Tailor-made HolidayIf you want to do the Maldives at the very highest level, this is the trip. Few destinations are as naturally set up for luxury travel.
