You’ll find an abundance of marine life in the Baa Atoll. It’s a Unesco-designated Biosphere Reserve. Hanifaru Bay is the place to be if you want to go diving and see manta rays and sharks swimming around the atoll. You can take boat trips around the lagoon and visit remote, uninhabited islands. Supposing you’d like to explore this part of the Maldives, we’ve chosen two of our favourite hotels in the area.
Both are premium luxury. Finolhu is a very modern resort with with more experimental design features. Anantara Kihavah has an underwater restaurant and even an in-house astronomer.

Finolhu
Finolhu is a luxury resort in the Maldives with an edge. The design is modern and playful. The Cove Club (the spa) has treatment rooms named after famous pop icons, so you can have a massage in the Aretha Franklin, should the mood take you. There are even phones you can order champagne from, which is always handy.
Anther bonus at Finolhu is the overwater villas: even entry level rooms give you the full overwater experience. This is a great choice if you’d like to stay in a resort that’s a little bit more funky. The sprawling bathrooms are also a major standout.
Anantara Kihavah
Located in a prime position in the Baa Atoll, Anantara Kihavah boasts an overwater spa and an extraordinary house reef. Comprised of 80 private pool villas in the Baa Atoll archipelago, this is one of the most beautiful places to stay in The Maldives. With crystal clear waters and stunning reefs, you can’t pick a better place for snorkelling.
What’s more, the SKY bar offers you stunning views of the cosmos through their very own telescope and the wisdom of their in-house astronomer. Oh, and did we mention that it’s got an underwater restaurant too?
