5 LGBTQ+-Owned Wineries to Add to Your Bucket List

Here's our guide to some of the best wineries in the US

From Sonoma County’s Equality Vines award-winning Pinot Noir to the terroir-driven creations of Camins 2 Dreams, these wineries showcase some of the finest bottles in America. You can support the community while enjoying a proper tasting flight in the rooms these vineyards have built to show off their work. Whether it’s Remy Wines’ Italian-inspired varietals in Oregon or Aluel Cellars’ elegant offerings in Seattle, each of these LGBTQ+-owned wineries delivers unique flavours and stories worth raising a glass to.

Visiting wineries is more than just sipping wine. It’s a journey into the art and science behind every bottle. You’ll learn about terroir, how soil, climate, and geography shape the flavour of the wine, and discover the winemaking process, from grape harvesting to barrel ageing. Experts will guide you through tasting techniques, teaching you to identify aromas, flavours, and textures like a pro. You’ll also uncover the stories behind each winery.

Equality Vines – Sonoma County, California

Owned by Matt Grove and Jim Obergefell—the lead plaintiff in the Supreme Court case that legalised same-sex marriage in the United States—this is a winery with a social conscience. It helps that the wine tastes excellent too! Located in the heart of Sonoma County, Equality Vines partners with organisations championing LGBTQ+ rights, donating a portion of proceeds to these causes. Try their “Love Wins” Pinot Noir, a balanced and elegant expression of Sonoma terroir, or their ever-popular sparkling rosé. Their limited-release wines are always worth a try.
