At a glance
This 14-day trip runs the coast from Nice to the Cinque Terre by first-class train and private car, with five bases along the way, Nice, Monaco, Sanremo, Portofino and Porto Venere.
You start in Nice at the Hotel Negresco, built in 1913 and one of the few Belle Époque grand hotels on this stretch of coast still run the way it originally was.

A private city tour covers the old town and the Promenade des Anglais, and a wine tasting at Château de Crémat takes you to the Bellet appellation, a pocket of vineyards inside Nice's own city limits, one of France's smallest wine regions. Dinner on the last night is on the rooftop at Calade, looking back down over the bay.
A first-class train takes you on to Monaco and the Hotel de Paris, across the square from the casino, for a private tour of Monte Carlo and the old town on the rock, and dinner one evening at Les Ambassadeurs, Christophe Cussac's Michelin-starred restaurant inside the hotel.
The Italian Riviera comes next. In Sanremo you stay at the Royal Hotel Sanremo, a 19th-century hotel from the town's original run as a winter resort for European aristocracy, with dinner at Villa Noseda on the water and, later, Sanremo's gay bars, one of the more established scenes on this part of the coast.
In Portofino, the Splendido Mare, Belmond's smaller harborside hotel, is the base for a private boat tour of the Gulf and snorkeling at Paraggi Bay.
The trip ends at the Grand Hotel Portovenere, based in Porto Venere itself rather than inside the Cinque Terre, a short boat ride from the five villages without staying in the busiest part of them.
A private boat covers the coast past Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso, and the last dinner is at Locanda Lorena on Palmaria Island, reachable only by boat.

Day by day
This is a sample plan, not a fixed departure. Days can be added, removed or reordered, and almost every client changes something. Prices are an entry-level guide; your quote will be exact.
Day 1-3: Nice, France
You stay at the Hotel Negresco, built in 1913 and still recognizable by its pink dome, one of the last grand hotels on this coast still independently run.
Day one is a private city tour through the old town and along the Promenade des Anglais.
Day two is a wine tasting at Château de Crémat, in the Bellet appellation, vineyards that sit inside Nice’s own city limits and one of France’s smallest wine regions.
Day three is free until dinner, on the rooftop at Calade, looking back down over the bay.
Day 3-5: Monaco
A first-class train takes you to Monaco and the Hotel de Paris, directly across the square from the casino. A private guided tour covers Monte Carlo and the old town on the rock, and dinner one evening is at Les Ambassadeurs, Christophe Cussac’s Michelin-starred restaurant inside the hotel.
Day 5-7: Sanremo
A first-class train continues to Sanremo and the Royal Hotel Sanremo, a 19th-century hotel from the town’s original run as a winter resort for European aristocracy. Dinner on the first evening is at Villa Noseda, on the water.
The next day is free for the harbor and the old town, and in the evening, Sanremo’s gay bars, one of the more established scenes on this part of the Italian coast.
Day 7-10: Portofino
A private drive along the coast brings you to Portofino and the Splendido Mare, Belmond’s harborside hotel, smaller and more low-key than its sister property up the hill.
A private boat covers the Gulf of Portofino, and the following day is built around snorkeling at Paraggi Bay, the closest proper beach to the village.
Day 10-14: Cinque Terre (Porto Venere)
The trip ends at the Grand Hotel Portovenere, in Porto Venere rather than inside the Cinque Terre itself, a short boat ride from the five villages without putting you in the busiest part of them.
A private boat covers the coast past Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso.
In Porto Venere, the Church of San Pietro sits on the rocks at the point, above the sea cave known as Grotta Arpaia. The last dinner is at Locanda Lorena on Palmaria Island, reachable only by boat.

Italy is one of the best places in Europe to experience culture, food and beautiful scenery. With so much character and colour, the Amalfi Coast is a personal favourite of mine.
I never get tired of planning luxury vacations in Italy. There are so many magical cities and experiences to be enjoyed. Beaches, mountains and rolling countryside, there really is something for everyone.
Stellar service. Stellar products. Stellar people and it gets so much better when you pick up the phone and call.
