Step off the usual trail and visit both Delphi and Kalambaka in this itinerary. It allows you to explore both historical Greece and relax on the idyllic Greek Island of Santorini. Visiting the highlights of Ancient Greece, you’ll spend time in the heart of Athens before heading by boat to explore and unwind in the islands.
As well as exploring the Parthenon and the Acropolis, you’ll visit the key archaeological site of Delphi. Witness the breathtaking views at Meteora with monasteries built atop huge rocks. In the islands, you’ll have a chance to relax in beautiful Santorini. You can then choose to return to Athens for an extra day or fly out directly from Santorini if in season.
Upon arrival into Athens Airport, you’ll be met by a driver who will take you to your hotel.
After check-in you’ll have the rest of the day at leisure.
Overnight in Athens.
After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll meet your English speaking guide who will take you on a private tour of the highlights of Athens. Starting your visit to Panathinaikos Stadium, you’ll also explore the National Garden, Hadrian’s Arc, Greek Parliament and the tomb of the unknown soldier, and then visit the famous Acropolis, undoubtedly the crowning of the beauty and glory of Ancient Athens. Its many monuments include The Propylea, the temple Of Athena, Nike and the Erechtheion, with its Porch of Maidens.
Continue with a visit the Acropolis Museum, considered one of the most important archaeological museums in Athens and ranked among the most important museums of the world. The Acropolis includes artefacts from Ancient Greece, statues from the period and caryatids which are sculpted female figures used as architectural support instead of columns.
You’ll see the Parthenon as well as the ruins of Ancient Athens City, revealed during archaeological excavations on the site of the museum.
Overnight in Athens.
Following breakfast, you’ll check out from your Athens hotel and leave for Delphi via Thebes, Levadia and the picturesque village of Arachova, on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. When you arrive in Delphi you’ll visit the key archaeological site, which played host to many of the myths relating to Apollo and Zeus.
After Delphi, you’ll depart for Kalambaka, passing through picturesque villages and towns of Central Greece. Visit the incredible Meteora, a rock formation which has one of the most outstanding monasteries – The Monastery of Rousanou.
After dinner, you will spend the night in Kalambaka.
After breakfast, you will visit Meteora and enjoy a unique and most impressive scenery with timeless monasteries, containing priceless historical and religious treasures, standing between earth and sky atop huge rocks.
Return to Athens via Trikala, Lamia, Thermopylae, arriving back in Athens early in the evening.
On the way back to Athens, you will pass by the heroic monument of Leonidas king of Sparta in Thermopylae. The monument, built to commemorate the battle at Thermopylae, is located at the centre of the pass where the final phase of the battle took place.
Overnight in Athens.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel in Athens and head to the port in order to take the ferry to Santorini.
We’ll take you to your hotel for you to check in. The rest of the day is for you to explore or relax.
Overnight in Santorini.
Relax at leisure in Santorini before flying home from Santorini or getting a return ferry to Athens for your onward journey.
