Tucked away in the upscale Melrose neighbourhood of Johannesburg, The Peech is a design-forward boutique hotel that feels like a hidden garden retreat in the heart of the city. With just 32 rooms spread across two lush acres, the property balances bold, contemporary style with a deep sense of local connection. Whether you’re in town for business, leisure, or a bit of both, The Peech Hotel is a great place to stay.

The hotel wraps around a restored 1950s heritage home and blends with a series of sleek modern pavilions. Interiors are minimalist but warm, spotlighting South African design through natural materials, handwoven details, and curated artwork. You’ll also find two small outdoor pools, a beautiful garden that attracts birdsong all day long, and easy access to nearby cultural spots like Melrose Arch, Rosebank, and Sandton.

Food is a highlight here. The Peech’s in-house dining includes a guest-only space for casual meals and the acclaimed Basalt restaurant, led by award-winning chef Freddie Dias. Service is understated and personal, and although the vibe is laid-back, every detail is thoughtful. From the quiet luxury of the rooms to the emphasis on sustainability and style, The Peech is our favourite place to stay in Johannesburg.

The Classic Rooms

The Classic Rooms are the original suites located in the hotel’s heritage building and its surrounding garden pavilions. Each room opens onto a private patio or garden area, allowing natural light to fill the interiors.

Inside, you’ll find locally crafted furnishings, timber floors, and soft, earthy tones that reflect the South African landscape. Details like hand-stitched leather headboards, curated artwork, and high-quality linens elevate the experience. En-suite bathrooms feature walk-in showers and thoughtful amenities.

Though smaller than some of the newer categories, the Classic Rooms still offer all the comfort and style The Peech is known for.

Peech Villa

The Peech Villa is the hotel’s signature residence and ideal for families or friends travelling together. With two en-suite bedrooms and over 1,300 square feet of indoor-outdoor living space, the villa feels more like a private home than a hotel room, yet it still delivers all the service and design finesse The Peech is known for.
