Sandy Lane has been on the Platinum Coast of Barbados since 1961, when former British politician Ronald Tree opened the original hotel on the site of an old sugar plantation, set within a grove of mahogany trees that had stood for centuries.
The property was bought in 1998 by a consortium of Irish businessmen and rebuilt from the ground up. The rebuilt resort retained the neo-Palladian coral stone architecture of the original and expanded the site from 380 acres to 830 acres, adding two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses alongside a 47,000 square foot spa.
It sits on 1,000 feet of white coral sand beach on the west coast of the island, around 35 minutes by road from Grantley Adams International Airport.
Sandy Lane has hosted guests including Queen Elizabeth II, Elton John, and Jackie Kennedy across its six decades of operation, and remains one of a small number of privately owned resorts at this level anywhere in the Caribbean.

Accommodation
Rooms
All rooms and suites include a private veranda, Italian marble floors, plantation-style furnishings, and a choice of garden or sea views.
The two main room categories are Orchid Rooms, which sit in the Orchid Wing surrounded by tropical gardens, and Ocean Rooms, which overlook the beach and offer direct access to the sand.
Both categories include a separate bathroom with bath and walk-in shower, air conditioning, minibar, flat-screen TV, and free WiFi.
Suites
The suite collection spans several wings of the resort. Garden Suites in the Orchid Wing include a living area, master bedroom, patio with a dining area, and a second bedroom with its own bathroom and balcony.
Ocean View Suites in the Dolphin Wing face the sea and include a living room, private patio, and a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom.
The Luxury Orchid Suites are two-bedroom suites with a living area, patio dining, and separate bathrooms for each bedroom.
Signature Accommodation
The Sandy Lane Suite sits on the second floor of the Turtle Wing with views of the Caribbean Sea, a private kitchen and dining area, dedicated staff, and a heated infinity pool on the terrace.
The Villa at Sandy Lane is a self-contained five-bedroom Palladian building set within its own gardens at the heart of the resort, covering over 7,300 square feet with a courtyard pool, Jacuzzi, dedicated butler and chef, and private beach access.

Food & Drink
Bajan Blue
The main restaurant sits on the beachfront and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner across a menu spanning Caribbean, European, and Asian influences. Sunday brunch is a standing fixture.
The Monkey Club
Sandy Lane’s signature oceanfront restaurant, with an evening-focused service and a setting that looks directly out to the Caribbean.
The Lower Terrace
An outdoor setting on the lower level serving food throughout the day and hosting the resort’s afternoon tea service.
The Country Club
Positioned above the coastline with views across the golf fairways and the Caribbean Sea, serving light lunches, coffees, and cocktails throughout the day.
Spa & Wellness
The Spa covers 47,000 square feet with 14 treatment suites, a panoramic sauna, Rhassoul, and a hydrotherapy pool. Treatments are developed in collaboration with Aromatherapy Associates and include massages, body treatments, facials, and the signature Bajan Brown Sugar Body Scrub.
A 2,500 square foot fitness centre with Technogym equipment runs alongside, with complimentary spinning, Pilates, and yoga classes.
Golf spans 45 holes across three courses. The Green Monkey is a Tom Fazio-designed 72-par, 7,343-yard course carved from a limestone quarry, reserved for resort guests only.
The Country Club hosted the 2006 World Golf Championships, and The Old Nine, built in 1961, is the original nine-hole course on the estate. Floodlit tennis, padel tennis, and unlimited non-motorized water sports complete the offer.
