The mood is Edwardian and English country house: fine art, antiques, fresh flowers, fireplaces, and private gardens. Rooms and suites are individually decorated, no two the same.
The on-site restaurant, The Terrace, is a serious draw, serving French cooking with local island produce in a conservatory and on a garden terrace. Beyond dinner, the inn runs on quiet: sitting rooms, porches, and manicured gardens, with an art gallery on-site.
This is a romantic, grown-up place rather than a family one, made for couples, gay or straight, on a honeymoon or anniversary. It is a short walk from Edgartown’s harbor, shops, and restaurants, with Martha’s Vineyard Airport about 15 minutes away.

Superior Queen Rooms
Experience the glamour of a bygone age. The decor is charmingly old world but not remotely stuffy. The rooms are decorated with Edwardian wallpaper, crystal vases and fireplaces. Full of charm and character.
Superior King Rooms
Experience 19th-century realness at its best. The beds are the centerpiece of these rooms, accessorized with silk and linen drapes, shining brass and crystal lamps, and vintage oil paintings of English country scenes.
Signature Suites
The Signature Suites offer the best in old-world charm. You’ll have a sumptuously outfitted king bed, a separate living area and a working fireplace.

Dining
Unlike many island inns, the Charlotte Inn has a destination restaurant on-site. The Terrace serves fine French cooking, built on produce from the island’s farms and fishermen, in a glass conservatory dining room that opens onto a garden terrace. White linen, Limoges china, and an attentive, old-school style set the tone; jackets are preferred. It runs for dinner Wednesday through Sunday, and reservations are essential in season, for guests and outside diners alike.
Wellness
The Charlotte Inn is a period country-house inn, and the wellness on offer is the slower kind. Days tend to run on porch sitting, a book in the gardens, a drink by the fire in cooler months, and the calm of quiet sitting rooms full of antiques and art. The inn keeps an art gallery on-site, and the concierge can arrange massage and treatments elsewhere on the island.
Location
The inn is on quiet South Summer Street, in the heart of Edgartown, but set back from the bustle, in a neighbourhood of white-framed former whaling captains’ houses. The harbor, shops, galleries, and restaurants of the village are a short walk away, as is the Edgartown Lighthouse. You don’t need a car; the island works on foot, by bike, and by the local bus. Martha’s Vineyard Airport is about 15 minutes away, with year-round ferries from the mainland into Vineyard Haven.
