This is the most stylish way to contemplate the universe
A number of resorts in the Maldives now boast their own telescopes and because there is so little light pollution in the Indian Ocean, observatories are popping up at a number of resorts throughout the region.
Anantara Kihavah
In 2017 the Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas launched a new overwater observatory and bar, fittingly named SKY. The private residence is located in a prime location in the Maldives’ Baa Atoll Island on the verge of Hanifaru Bay. The Maldives has a tropical climate with a very consistent temperature between 25 – 32 degrees. The five-star resort has long been renowned as an ideal destination to explore the underwater world of the stunning Indian Ocean. The lack of industry in the area means the waters are crystal clear. With the addition of SKY you can experience more than the ocean. The new Maldives Villa is the world’s first overwater observatory. It houses a powerful telescope along with a luxurious cocktail bar. Instead of just exploring the blue water and sunshine, you can now explore the planets and stars in a luxury stargazing hub. You aren’t a professional astrologer? Don’t worry, there’s a resident Sky Guru to talk you through the stunning constellations above.
As The Maldives becomes ever more popular the tourism industry becomes more competitive. This is one of several venues in the region that’s redefining luxury. Located on a breathtaking private island in the Indian Ocean, you can experience a private cinema under the stars and even swim with Manta Rays and Hammerhead Sharks. It’s an absolute once-in-a-lifetime experience that would be the perfect fit for a honeymoon. And if that isn’t enough, you can do this while sipping on a cooled glass of Moet & Chandon Dom Perignon champagne. Or taste one of the many expertly crafted cocktails: there’s a circular bar located in the panorama lounge within the villa. You can also get delicious food here, such as innovative tapas and fragrant shisha. All while the resident DJ Kristina spins mellow vibes that seem to shapeshift with the fading light.

The built-in ash-dome observatory is located on the roof deck of the SKY Bar and surrounded by endless open skies. The telescope is a research-grade 16 inch Meade LX200 model mounted on a super-giant field tripod. Remote controlled with 360 degree movement, the powerful telescope opens up a whole world of wonder and perspective. Staring at the grey barren surface of Saturn will be a truly mind-expanding experience; notwithstanding the equally mind-expanding cocktail menu.
In addition to the SKY observatory at Anantara Kihavah, the recent developments at Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani have further enhanced the Maldives’ reputation as a stargazing paradise. These two resorts, known for their luxurious and eco-friendly approach, have introduced state-of-the-art observatories that promise an unforgettable celestial experience.

Soneva Jani
Soneva Jani, known for its overwater villas and pristine waters, adds another feather to its cap with its exclusive overwater observatory.
