At a glance

Bora Bora is the honeymoon most couples picture when they imagine French Polynesia: overwater bungalows suspended above a lagoon that shifts through every shade of blue, Mount Otemanu rising behind it, and a level of privacy that has made the island one of the most reliably LGBTQ+ welcoming honeymoon destinations anywhere in the South Pacific.

This itinerary builds toward exactly that, using Tahiti as the arrival point and Taha'a as a quieter stop in between.

Tahiti opens the trip with its own reasons to linger: Point Venus's black sand coastline, Teahupo'o's famous wave, and a first taste of island time before the rest of the honeymoon unfolds.

Taha'a follows, a quieter island scented by its own vanilla plantations, where two days are spent almost entirely at the resort, in each other's company, away from anywhere else.

The honeymoon closes on Bora Bora, two nights in an overwater bungalow beneath Mount Otemanu, with the lagoon changing color through the day outside your door.

Every detail here, from the hotels to the pacing between islands, is built around you; what follows is a starting point, not a fixed itinerary.

Day by day

?

This is a sample plan, not a fixed departure. Days can be added, removed or reordered, and almost every client changes something. Prices are an entry-level guide; your quote will be exact.

Days 1-3: Tahiti

Point Venus, a black sand beach just outside Papeete, is where Captain Cook recorded the transit of Venus in 1769, and where a 19th-century lighthouse still marks the spot. Along the island’s southern coast, Teahupo’o breaks over one of the most famous reefs in surfing, home to the 2024 Olympic surfing competition.

Three nights allows time for both: a morning at Point Venus, an afternoon watching Teahupo’o from the shore or by boat, and an evening browsing Papeete’s black pearl market, among the best in the Pacific for sourcing Tahitian pearls.

Days 3-5: Taha’a

Taha’a is shaped like a hibiscus flower and scented, quite literally, by the vanilla plantations that supply much of the vanilla used in French cuisine. The island has no commercial airport, arrived at instead by a short boat transfer that immediately sets the pace: fewer visitors, fewer boats in the lagoon, and long stretches of coral reef close enough to the shore to snorkel without a boat.

Two nights here are typically spent almost entirely at the resort, alternating between the reef and doing very little at all, before the honeymoon closes on Bora Bora.

Days 5 - 7: Bora Bora

Bora Bora closes the honeymoon on the island most couples picture when they imagine French Polynesia. Mount Otemanu rises directly behind the lagoon, and the water beneath it shifts through shades of blue and turquoise as the light changes over the course of the day. This is where the overwater bungalow belongs: two nights with direct steps down into the lagoon, breakfast delivered by outrigger canoe, and a private sunset cruise timed to catch Otemanu’s silhouette at its best.

Bora Bora is also French Polynesia’s main international hub, so the honeymoon ends the way it should: with the most memorable days last, and an easy transfer home from there.

Secluded Tahiti & Rangiroa Tour

Tailor-made Holiday

This itinerary moves through three of French Polynesia's quieter islands, each reached only by boat or short inter-island flight, and each rarely appearing on a first-time visitor's itinerary. It suits travellers who have already done Bora Bora, or who would rather skip it, in favour of a slower, less-photographed route through French Polynesia. The journey begins on Tahiti, where volcanic peaks meet a coastline still shaped by the island's original Polynesian settlements.
