Drift out to the meeting of the Mekong, Tonlé Sap and Bassac as the Royal Palace catches the last of the light.
The Four Faces

Phnom Penh grew up at Chaktomuk, known locally as the Four Faces, where the Tonlé Sap, the upper and lower Mekong and the Bassac rivers all come together near the city centre. On a private cruise at sunset you head out across this meeting of waters, then turn back toward the city as the light fades.
A Skyline in Changing Light

From the water, the gilded roofs of the Royal Palace glow in the last of the sun long before you’d notice them from the street. Farther along the bank, Wat Ounalom fades into silhouette as the sky darkens, while across the water the modern towers of Diamond Island make a striking contrast with the older riverfront.
Away from the centre, floating fishing villages and stilted houses line the banks, built to rise and fall with the river through the year.

The boat moves gently toward the junction, giving you an open view back to the city as its buildings change colour. Although four rivers meet here, their currents mingle below the surface, so the ride stays smooth. As the sun sets, the palace and riverfront become dark outlines against a glowing sky.
Your Boat, Your Timing

With a private boat, your departure follows the sunset, not a timetable. There’s no commentary to sit through and no shared seating, just the view, and a car back into the city is arranged so the whole evening flows without a break.
It’s a lovely, easy evening for couples and friends, and your Out Of Office specialist can suggest welcoming places to stay nearby. Our Cambodia guide covers LGBTQ+ rights and practical advice.
The hard part is not finding a beautiful place. It is finding the right one for you.
Every property we suggest is handpicked by our team. Twenty minutes with a specialist will tell you which ones are worth your time.

An Ancient Tradition The water blessing is one of Cambodia's oldest rituals, thought to have roots in earlier Hindu purification rites and still performed today at Buddhist pagodas across the country. At a peaceful countryside pagoda near Siem Reap, monks recite chants in Pali, the classical language of the Buddhist texts, and bless the water that is then sprinkled or poured over each person taking part.

Toward evening your private boat heads out across the open water, past villages built on the lake itself, before settling somewhere quiet to watch the sun go down.
