The journey begins in Venice, with two nights at the Belmond Hotel Cipriani, set on its own private stretch of Giudecca Island across the water from the main city. A gondola ride through the canals is the obvious first move, followed by an afternoon at Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Basilica, two buildings that between them explain most of Venice's history in a single walk. As evening settles in, dinner can mean anything from a quiet canalside table to a night at Teatro La Fenice, Venice's opera house, rebuilt twice after fire and still one of the most striking rooms in the city.
From Venice, the journey continues aboard the Seabourn, calling at a run of ports that each show a different side of the Adriatic: Koper, where centuries of Venetian rule are still visible in the architecture, medieval Dubrovnik in Croatia, and Amalfi, where the coastline itself does most of the work. Days aboard are spent in an Ocean View Suite, with the sea rarely out of view from the cabin itself.
The trip closes in Rome, with two nights at Leon's Place, a design-led hotel a short walk from the city center. A private golf cart tour is an easy way to cover ground across a city built for walking but not always built for time, with a stop at the Vatican for those who want to see its collection in full. Evenings in Rome need little planning beyond choosing a restaurant and letting the city do the rest.
