Arrive into Mexico City where you’ll be met by a driver who will take you to your hotel.
Over the next two days, explore one of the world’s biggest and most exciting cities. Enjoy a guided visit to the historical centre with a private tour that includes “The Zocalo”, the heart of the city, where you will visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the oldest and largest of the Americas, and the National Palace, home of the famous murals of Diego Rivera. You will also see the ruins of the Templo Mayor, an important temple complex of the Aztecs in their ancient capital city of Tenochtitlan.
Next, we drive down the beautiful Paseo de la Reforma Avenue, passing “El Angel de Independencia”, to arrive at the Zona Rosa. The “Pink Zone” is definitely one of the most diverse areas of the city and it’s the heart of the city’s gay life, especially Calle Amberes. It’s full of shops, restaurants, as well as gay bars and clubs. Our guide will show you the hotspots of the neighbourhood before finishing the tour at Bar Kinky, to enjoy a delicious cocktail.
In the evenings, head out in the Zona Rosa or head to the Republica de Cuba Street, another gay-nightlife hub, located in downtown. Alternatively, go to the fancy Club Guilt, in the upscale district of Polanco.
Teotihuacán, “the place where gods were created”, is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Mexico. Until its inhabitants abandoned the city around the 8th century, Teotihuacan was probably the most significant and civilised cultural centre of ancient Mexico. During this guided excursion you will encounter the magic and mystery of Teotihuacan. Admire (and climb if you wish) the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon. Walk down the Avenue of the Dead, visit the Temple of Quetzalcoatl with its unique stone sculptures of plumed serpents, the Temple of the Butterflies, and the Fortresses.
After lunch, return to Mexico City. Your next visit will be Frida Kahlo’s home, the “Casa Azul”, located in the Bohemian district of Coyoacan. Admire paintings and personal belongings of Mexico’s most iconic artist. Learn more about her life, her marriage, her affairs and her suffering.
Then continue to Xochimilco, one of the most picturesque and colourful areas of the city, and one of the last remaining vestiges of the old Aztec capital of Tenochtitlán. This beautiful place is characterized by its canals, floating gardens with lovely flowers, and brightly decorated “trajineras”, which could be considered the traditional Mexican equivalent of a gondola. Enjoy the lively atmosphere on the canals while mariachi serenade you, floating kitchens offer you food, and flower-vendors tempt you with their colourful bouquets.
Today is a chance to sample the gastronomic side of Mexico City. It is one of the culinary capitals of the World, with a unique gastronomy recognised as World Heritage. In the morning we’ll arrange a delicious culinary tour.
Visit six food tasting locations, from different Mexican regional cuisines, in the cosmopolitan Polanco neighbourhood. The stops will include an authentic Oaxacan food restaurant, a real Mexican Cantina and Mexico City’s top rated tacos stuffed with Cochinita Pibil, a speciality in the state Yucatan. Alternatively, take a Mexican cooking class at the Mercado San Juan with a professional chef.
In the afternoon you’ll have time to shop in Polanco. Walk down the fancy Masaryk Avenue, Mexico’s equivalent of New York’s Fifth Avenue. Visit Plaza Antara, a true shopping paradise, and finish up at one of the city’s most colourful restaurants, Dulce Patria, for a unique gastronomic experience.
