Day 1: A Warm Welcome to Sri Lanka

Your journey begins with a warm welcome as you arrive in Sri Lanka. Your private English-speaking chauffeur guide will greet you at the airport, ensuring a seamless introduction to this island paradise. A short transfer takes you to your elegant retreat in Kotugoda, where you can unwind in luxury and soak in the serene surroundings. Take this time to relax and prepare for the adventures ahead, as Sri Lanka’s ancient heritage and natural beauty await.

Day 2: Discover the Sacred City of Anuradhapura

Today, travel north to the cultural heart of Sri Lanka, stopping first at the UNESCO-listed city of Anuradhapura. With its roots tracing back over 2,500 years, this ancient kingdom is home to towering stupas, sacred temples, and one of the oldest recorded trees in the world, the Sri Maha Bodhi. Witness the enduring devotion of pilgrims who gather here to pay their respects. Later, explore the hidden ruins of Kaludiya Pokuna, where monks live in silent meditation, offering a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s rich spiritual traditions. After a day steeped in history, continue to Sigiriya for a restful evening.

Day 3: Ancient Marvels – Pidurangala & Polonnaruwa

Begin the day with a scenic hike up Pidurangala Rock, a site offering panoramic views of the Sigiriya Fortress rising majestically above the jungle. The climb, though challenging, rewards you with a memorable sunrise over Sri Lanka’s lush countryside.

Afterward, step back in time as you explore the ancient city of Polonnaruwa. This medieval capital, adorned with magnificent ruins, Buddhist temples, and intricate stone carvings, provides a fascinating look into the island’s golden age.

Take in the Gal Vihara rock-cut Buddha statues and let the echoes of history guide you through this UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 4: Sigiriya Rock Fortress & the Monastery of Ritigala

Today’s highlight is Sigiriya, the legendary rock fortress built by King Kashyapa.

Ascend the 1,200 steps to uncover an ancient citadel filled with exquisite frescoes, an iconic Mirror Wall, and the remains of a once-thriving palace. The views from the summit are unforgettable, offering a bird’s-eye perspective of the emerald landscapes below.

Later, venture into the secluded monastery of Ritigala, a mystical site nestled deep within the jungle. Follow the winding stone paths as you explore the ruins of this ancient monastic complex, a place of silence and meditation that radiates serenity.

Day 5: Journey to Kandy via Dambulla’s Cave Temples

En route to Kandy, stop at the Dambulla Cave Temples, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site adorned with intricate Buddhist murals and statues. Step inside these sacred caves, where stories of devotion and artistry come to life.

Arriving in Kandy, the vibrant colors and aromas of the city’s bustling markets are hard to miss, where spices, exotic fruits, and local delicacies fill the air with intoxicating scents.

For an authentic culinary experience, visit a beloved local café for freshly baked bread and aromatic Ceylon tea, embracing the city’s rich flavors.

Day 6: Kandy’s Cultural Treasures

Kandy, Sri Lanka’s last royal capital, is a city steeped in history. Stroll through its charming colonial streets, where echoes of a bygone era linger.

Visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of the most revered Buddhist shrines in the world, where a fragment of Buddha’s tooth is enshrined. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely drink at the Royal Bar, a timeless establishment where locals gather over spicy deviled chicken and ice-cold beers.

For the adventurous, sample a shot of Sri Lankan arrack—sweet yet potent, and the perfect companion to a night in Kandy.

Day 7: Scenic Train to Ella – Sri Lanka’s Most Beautiful Railway Journey

Embark on one of the world’s most spectacular train journeys as you travel through the rolling tea country of Sri Lanka.

Watch as the landscape transforms from tropical forests to misty hills, passing cascading waterfalls and lush valleys along the way.

Arriving in Ella, you’ll be greeted by your chauffeur guide and transferred to your hilltop retreat.

Take the evening to unwind, soaking in the crisp mountain air and the tranquility of this highland haven.

Day 8: Hiking in Ella & Journey to the Coast

Ella is a hiker’s paradise, where nature’s beauty is best explored on foot.

Choose between a gentle trek up Little Adam’s Peak for panoramic views or a more challenging ascent to Ella Rock, where tea plantations and eucalyptus forests line the path.

After a rewarding hike, set off on a scenic drive south to Galle, a journey that winds through rolling hills and down towards Sri Lanka’s sun-kissed coast.

Day 9: The Historic Charm of Galle

Wander the storied streets of Galle, a city where colonial history meets Sri Lankan soul. Your private guide will lead you through the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort, its centuries-old ramparts standing strong against the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. Explore boutique shops, visit grand colonial mansions, and absorb the fusion of cultures that shaped this maritime gem. In the afternoon, share an intimate home-cooked meal with Mother Washanti and Father Sam, two charming hosts who will welcome you like family as they prepare an array of mouthwatering Sri Lankan curries.

Day 10: Farewell Sri Lanka

Savor your final morning in Sri Lanka before embarking on a private transfer back to the airport. En route, stop at a traditional Sri Lankan home for one last culinary experience—a meal prepared with the island’s finest spices, reflecting the heart and soul of Sri Lankan hospitality. As you board your flight home, carry with you the unforgettable memories of ancient kingdoms, breathtaking landscapes, and the warmth of a culture that has embraced you at every step.
