Hike, boat and share a meal outdoors under a sun that never sets, exploring Lapland's forests and lakes long after everyone else has gone in.
When Night Never Comes

North of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland, the tilt of the earth keeps the summer sun in the sky around the clock, erasing the line between day and night. Instead of ending as evening falls, your day carries on under a sun that never quite sets: hiking, boating, wildlife and culture all feel different when the land stays lit for twenty-four hours, and the lack of darkness changes both the landscape and how you move through it.
Living by the Light

The midnight sun has shaped Arctic life for thousands of years, long before clocks, as communities fitted their days to the far north’s shifting light. For the Sámi, who have lived across northern Scandinavia for generations, the seasons of daylight still influence reindeer herding and movement across the land, and summer’s endless light has always been linked with migration, travel and time outdoors.
It happens because the earth’s axis tips toward the sun during the northern summer, so above the Arctic Circle the sun stays up even at midnight. Travellers now come to Lapland specifically for it; while the northern lights draw winter visitors, the midnight sun shows the Arctic in an entirely different light.

The midnight sun isn’t one sight or viewpoint but something you experience across a landscape and over time. Most visitors watch it from a town, a hotel or a known lookout. Privately, the day is planned around the best conditions rather than a timetable, and you can stay out late when everyone else has gone inside, moving through forests, waterways and mountains as the light shifts through the night. Routes adapt to weather, wildlife and your own interests, a truly magical way for a couple or friends to experience the Arctic summer.
Hiking, Boating and Midnight Meals

You might set out in the evening, the sun resting low above the horizon without ever disappearing, lakes, forests, rivers and mountains staying in view hour after hour. Trails lead on into what would normally be night, boats glide across lakes that mirror the unbroken sun, wildlife keeps moving, and the land keeps changing shape as the angle of light shifts. Around midnight the sun often hovers just above the horizon before slowly climbing again.
Depending on your plan, you might hike above the treeline, visit Sámi communities, fish Arctic lakes or share a meal outdoors beneath the midnight sun.
