It seems that medals are not the only things sparkling at the Olympics!
It seems the 2016 Olympics has sparked several Olympic athletes to seize the memorious opportunity to propose to their loved ones. So far we have seen Brazilian rugby sevens player, Isadora Cerullo proposed to by her girlfriend, Marjorie Enya on the rugby pitch. Cerullo’s long term girlfriend fashioned a ring out of a piece of ribbon and tied it round Isadora’s finger whilst her fellow team-mates watched and cheered. Enya said: ‘I wanted to show that love wins’.
This beautiful display of love was then followed by more proposals amongst the Olympic sporting stars. Great British race-walker Tom Bosworth proposed to his boyfriend on Copacabana beach after achieving 6th place in the men’s 20km walk. Bosworth came out as a gay man last year, but said ‘It is a big decision, but it’s not going to change my life. I’m comfortable and have been in a happy relationship for the last four and a half years.’ He said that coming out to the public as a sportsman is scary, but he said he received so much support from his friends and family that he now feels very comfortable.

For China’s 3m springboard star He Zi, a silver medal wasn’t the only sparkling item she received last Sunday as her boyfriend Qin Kai who is also a Chinese diver, proposed to her at her medal ceremony. The couple have been together for 6 years and both received medals at the Olympics as Qin Kai won bronze in the men’s 3m springboard.
