At a glance
Goatfell is a four-bedroom tea bungalow on the Concordia Estate in Kandapola, at 2,000 metres above sea level in Sri Lanka’s Hill Country.
The building dates from the early twentieth century and served as the estate superintendent’s residence before Teardrop Hotels restored it as a boutique retreat.
It operates on an all-inclusive basis with butler service, a log-burning fireplace and an infinity pool overlooking the tea fields. Nuwara Eliya is 30 minutes away, though most guests find little reason to make the journey.
What Goatfell offers is not a resort experience but something closer to having a hill country estate to yourself. The scale is small by design, the service runs without interruption, and the surroundings do the rest.

Accommodation
Concordia Double Bedrooms
The three Concordia Double Bedrooms (Kandapola, Ragala and Summerhill) occupy separate corners of the bungalow, each with a king-size four-poster bed, en-suite bathroom, private veranda and views across the gardens and tea country.
Interiors mix antique and contemporary pieces, with plush rugs, heaters and hot water bottles provided for the cooler evenings that come with the altitude.
Concordia Twin Bedroom
The Concordia Twin Bedroom has twin beds and a sitting area, and can be interconnected with an adjacent double to form a family suite. In this configuration it gives families the space and separation that a single room cannot.

Food & Drink
The kitchen at Goatfell draws on produce from the hotel’s own vegetable patch and the surrounding countryside.
Breakfast and afternoon tea are served on the veranda or in the garden. Lunch follows the format of a traditional Planter’s Lunch, a rotation of Sri Lankan curries.
Dinner moves to an à la carte menu, served in the dining room or outside depending on the evening. Snacks and drinks throughout the day, including alcohol, are covered in the daily rate.
Infinity Pool
The bungalow’s infinity pool, set against the backdrop of the tea fields, provides a tranquil space for relaxation and contemplation.
