This resort in French Polynesia is where the Obamas retreat and was chosen for newlywed Pippa Middleton's honeymoon
This is the resort everyone is talking about. Its private location, stunning scenery and celebrity attraction makes it very appealing. The Brando is located on the private island of Tetiaroa which is surrounded by a large beautiful lagoon and in the beautiful South Pacific nation of French Polynesia. The private island can only be accessed by seaplane which is probably why it attracts many well-known public figures, including Barack Obama. After eight years in office, Obama decided to set his “out of office” permanently and his first stop was to retreat to this very resort with his wife Michelle Obama for four weeks of luxury and a well-deserved break! The future Queen of England’s younger sister Pippa Middleton and her husband James Matthews also chose this luxurious resort for their honeymoon.

The hotel is one of the best resorts in the country with a choice of one, two or three bedroom villas all decorated to an impeccable standard. Each villa has a separate living area and a wooden terrace which leads out onto a private plunge pool. The beach is only a short hop, skip and jump away, and there is plenty of space between each villa, filled with natural foliage providing a private and intimate experience.
Dining at the resort is an experience in itself with all fruit and vegetables grown locally on the island. Its menus have been handcrafted by Michelin star chefs including Guy Martin who is the head chef at the two-star Michelin restaurant Le Grand Vefour in Paris.
The island was once owned by iconic film star Marlon Brando. He bought the island for his Polynesia wife Tarita who was his co-star in the film Mutiny On The Bounty. Whilst filming the movie in and around Tahiti, Brando fell in love with the island and set his heart on purchasing the atoll which he snapped up for a mere £15,000 in 1966. The property takes its name from the former owner.
If you fancy a spot of pampering then the spa at the hotel provides a wide range of holistic treatments. Experience a spa like none other, and sink into ultimate relaxation.
There are plenty of activities to keep you occupied at the resort, including scuba diving, snorkelling, paddle boarding and bird watching. The lagoon which surrounds the island is thriving with marine life and is home to many creatures including sea turtles, manta rays and all kinds of exotic fish. If you fancy learning a little more about the traditional French Polynesian culture, then the resort also holds many activities such as Polynesian dance lessons, music lessons with traditional instruments, Polynesian handicraft lessons, Pareu tie-dying and cuisine, wine and cocktail lessons.
The Brando is definitely one for the bucket list, but the good news is that it’s not only open to the ultra rich and famous. You too can book a stay at the resort the Obamas stayed at in the South Pacific. ENQUIRE NOW and we can create you the perfect celebrity tropical island escape.
