A culturally rich destination full of sights, sounds and smells to keep your sense alive
I had been to Marrakesh on a school trip many moons ago but saw nothing of the sights I experienced this time around. Last time it was a six-man tent temperatures of many minuses high up in the Atlas Mountains that drew me to Morocco. This time it was the thought of exploring the intricate souks, or marketplaces, to see the many traditional wares, pottery, jewellery and textiles. And of course to experience just how good my haggling skills were.
The team at OutOfOffice.com put together an amazing itinerary for me staying at El Fenn where we stayed in the Imperial Suite a beautifully appointed room bridging two courtyards of the Riad, The rooms are elegant and authentically decorated with walls in coloured tadelakt and crimson colours leading onto stunning courtyards, countless pools and arguably the best views and location in Marrakesh.

First thing in the morning you will enjoy a breakfast with panoramic views of the city and Atlas Mountains. A breakfast for champions augmented by the smells, noise and views.
El Fenn has a real special quality, with the 40ft palm trees and vines that climb the walls and the warren of corridors adorned with spectacular art pieces. And the entire hotel is accessible through an inconspicuous door of a Marakkesh back street. So make sure you opt for a pickup at the airport, unless you are a pro who fancies the adventure of finding the destination!
Before our departure, we arranged with our concierge at OutOfOffice.com to do some walking in the Atlas Mountains. It was much easier having this all arranged before our arrival as opposed to the premium to pay when booked locally and at the last minute. One major tip” remember to pack some decent walking shoes and a good hat!
Partner this with spending the following day at the rose garden oasis that is the Beldi Country Club with its sartorial elegant centerpiece of the black pool makes for a perfect short break in the African sun. And all this is less than a four hour flight from the UK.
Another highlight we enjoyed is Bo-Zin, a fabulous contemporary oasis restaurant in the desert. You must go. At night, it also turns into a mini 'club' with a DJ, I mean club in the loosest possible term “” there is a sophisticated elegance about it. If a club is more what you are after then Marrakesh's Pacha would definitely be my recommendation.
Whether you are hoping for a weekend break or something a little longer that offers more than a traditional European city then I can only highly recommend Marrakesh as a choice for you. It is, as always though, worth noting that it is an Arab country and it therefore comes with its own mutual respects that should be shown when visiting.
