Day 1: Osaka
When you arrive at Tokyo you’ll get a connecting flight to Osaka. Your driver will meet you in Osaka and transfer you to your hotel.
Day 2: Tokushima
Take a bus to Tokushima and travel across the longest suspension bridge in the world between the islands of Shikoku and Honshu.
Day 3: Tokushima
Discover the streets of Tokushima. You can explore the temples of the pilgrimage trail, see the whirlpools in the strait of Naruto and even venture into the Iya Valley. Here you can find Ochiai village, a remote hamlet built in the Edo period.
Tokushima’s most popular export is the Bunraku puppet theatre.
Day 4: Takamatsu
This morning you’ll take a train along the coast to Takamatsu. Here you’ll see one of Japan’s most celebrated gardens, Ritsurin-koen.
Day 5: Naoshima
You’ll be taking a ferry to Naoshima island where you’ll discover its great art legacy. Known as the “art island”, you’ll find futuristic museums presenting contemporary Japanese art. The art harks back to Japan’s distant past whilst still being modern.
Naoshima island is an enigmatic place that seems to exist outside of time. It’ll make for a unique experience.
Day 6: Iya Valley
You’ll be setting out on a self-drive into the Iya Valley. You’ll be greeted by wonderful scenery wherever you look. The car will have excellent sat nav so you’ll be able to navigate your journey.
Day 7: Iya Valley
You can visit the Iya Valley’s hot springs and enjoy some water sports. Whitewater rafting is particularly popular here.
Day 8: Matsuyama
Take a trip to the town of Kannonji and take a train from there to Matsuyama, the largest city on Shikoku island. This city was made famous by Natsume Soseki’s novel Botchan, a chronicle of the Whitewater Restoration that is still taught in Japanese schools.
Day 9: Matsuyama
On your last full you’re free to enjoy the city at your own pace. You could visit the cities’ famous hot springs and unwind.
Day 10: Tokyo
Today you’ll fly to Tokyo. Enjoy the bright lights of the city on your last full day in Japan.
Day 11: Departure
Today you’ll be transferred to the airport for your return flight.
